i hope this is the right place for this, microwave isn't really old style but i hope you can help!
basically i had a disaster & put the grill on without noticing plastic tray that dh had put on top. fire, melting tray etc, dh puts out with water so now can't use gril, hob or oven. can't get a new one for a few days so am hoping someone can tell me what i can make using a microwave & a toaster! ds1 will probably be happy with beans on toast every day but i am after something a bit more nutritious!
any advice appreciated.
thank you!

You can make a nice syrup sponge pudding in a microwave. Vegetables are very nice cooked in a microwave with a little water. You can also do jacket potatoes. I find that 4 takes about 16 mins so if you are doing one then i guess it would be about 4 minsThe forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

It is easy to make cheese sauce in the microwave. Cook the macoroni or cauliflour first. Then place it in the sauce and reheat for about 1 minute. I will post the recipe I use if you want it.0

Do you have meals made up in the freezer that you can use up until you get a new cooker?
You could do jacket potatoes, rice pudding, custard puddings, steamed puddings, curry, scrambled eggs, chilli, steamed veg.
Do you have a slow cooker? :rotfl: or a George Foreman type grill?I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -
thanks all! have clicked the thanks on you all! i don't have a slow cooker - was thinking of getting one but never got round to it! mum has a george foreman so can borrow that, forgot before she came over - pah! will bob over tomorrow if it's gonna be a while - insurance getting back to me in the morning. i do veggies in microwave anyway but dh is a meat eater & moans if i do anything veggie & wasn't sure if u could do meat in microwave. george will solve that. will check out those other threads now, thanks all!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0

I was thinking along the lines of caravan cooking (not that I've got one, but I fantasize a lot
), and was going to suggest putting a tin of stewed steak in a microwaveable dish, with a tin of potatoes (new pots would be nice, but Sainsbury's Economy are fine at around 14p a tin), and a tin of mixed veg, or peas, or carrots etc.
Heat the whole lot in the microwave until piping hot (stirring at intervals) and serve with bread and butter.
It's not as if it's forever, and at least it's a hot meal.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I have been without mine for 10 days and no new one till 19th April - I did a huge cook in of mince and stews and soup and had in freezer so am using that and have done salmon steaks in micro - cheese sauce - cooked onion, cooked pasta and added tomato sauce for pasta and chopped in some ham and served with cheese sauce - lovely stuff. You can do loads and loads of stuff and baked potatoes do great if you cook them and then put them in foil for about 5 - 10 minutes to rest with a drop of olive oil on them first.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
