So I sent them the following e-mail
Hi,

Having received your e-mail which confirmed that you were to remove my details, I assume that I am free to retain the book at no cost to myself.
If you require the book please make arrangements for it to be collected and inform myself as soon as posssible.
and received another copy of

They are now free to collect said book, once OH has finished reading it!Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
I was reading a thread on R points last night, which of course I can't find now! that was basically saying that one of the click through offers for a free competition seemed to have signed him up for all sorts of things including the Mango book club. Is it possible that it might be something similar as to have joined a physical book club as opposed to an ebook club they must have your postal address so it has to have come via somewhere that you have used.
It is all a bit worrying though and reflects rather badly on Mango if you can join up without even realising it.

You don't have to make it available to them to collect, it is under law your property and you don't have to pay for it. You did the right thing keeping their email confirming they recieved your first email.0 -
I've just got this same email. I do a lot of competitions and am well !!!!!! off if this is the result.
What was the outcome for you guys?0 -
When we got back from holiday last week, our youngest daughter (13) had been sent a book from Mango. It also had an invoice with it. I rang them and asked how she could sign up. The lady said we could keep the book and she would cancell the contract, again I asked her and she said that she could have entered an online competition or game and then the info could have been transfered!!!! Told her outright that the company was well out of order. Mind you, wife says it is a good book though!!Nice to save.0

There has been many threads on here about this. It does seem to be a competition click through somewhere that is instigating the start ups. As the threads had died down, I had wondered whether it had been stopped but clearly it hasn't, or it has been reinstated once the fuss died down.0

hi,
by day i am an advice worker in an independant advice centre ( CAB trained), i had a client recently who had been sent a book by this comapany and who had not signed up to any subscription, he rang the comapnay who said " subscription cancelled, keep the book as goodwill gesture etc. " so he naturally thought it was all over........... 6 months down the line a letter drops through his door from a solicitors/debt collector firm asking for £140+ for unpaid debts opwed to Mango!!. ... am in the process of dealing with this right now eg. writing to solicitors asking for this to be held whilst further investigations are carried out. I have written on behalf of my client to Mango asking for a copy of the original signed contract, should be interesting as there isn't one
Please please get anything in writing from this company, do not delte emails which state contracts are cancelled as proof of this may be required if the debt collectors come a knocking!
PS wil update when i get a responce from Mango.mustn't grumble :cool:0 -
I've currently got the situation where they won't respond to me without a membership number or an address. I haven't been given a membership number and I'm sure as hell not giving them my address given this thread.
Any ideas? Should I just route through Trading Standards now (who presumably will want me to give them my address so they can resolve it) or wait and see if they really do have my details and I get delivered a parcel? Absolutely fuming that they can do this.0 -
I came across this forum thread today while searching for Mango bookclub scams.
Out of the blue, I recieved a parcel yesterday from Mango book club with a 'free' introductory book and an invoice for 99p p&p! Like the original poster, I have never even heard of Mango and I would never sign up for a bookclub anyway.
How do I cancel? I refuse to spend money phoning their 0870 customer number and their website requires you to activate your membership by entering more details - no thanks! I don't want to enter into a their minimum term contract of 6 books in the first year. What can I do?
It's disgusting how some websites use other people's name and address to sign up to stuff.Mortgage started July 2010 = £223,314
