It works with telephone banking but, to the best of my knowledge, not with Internet banking.

It certainly doesn't work with internet banking for me, although I know they were trialing it on and off a while back.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

I transferred less than £500 out of Lloyds TSB, and it seems to be half Faster Payments and half BACS. Transaction done on a Monday morning, and appeared in receiving bank the next day. This has happened both times I've done it.

Maybe this was FP. As you cannot put a transaction in, on LLoyds, to go the same day even by BACS - if you put a transaction in on Monday to go "as soon as possible" it would go out on Tuesday - so mybe you got a Tuesday FP transaction.

(lloyds version of FP -it'll go quick -tomorrow!)

I just made another attempt to send a £1 FP from my TSB Scotland current account: the payment is always scheduled for the next working day and is supposed to take 3 working days.

I have never managed to send an immediate payment.

I also never managed to send an FP via phoneline. I tried 7 different receiving accounts all capable of FP but their interface indicated that none of these accounts were capable of receiving FP.

The way Lloyds use BACS for their Bill Payments is actually better than most banks: it's initiated on the Mon, the funds are taken from your a/c on Tue and the payment gets to the recipient on Wed (ie Day 3). Other banks generally seem to do the same thing except they would take the funds from you on the Mon (Day 1).

But I suspect they are now using a hybrid, esp for payments under £500. I have been getting the following day's date (eg Tue in the above example) for the payment, yet it also gets to the recipient on the Tue.

Don't know how you draw that conclusion- I can't think of any of the other banks I deal with which do not allow you to set-up a same day BACS payment. Its probably not too bad for bill payment but its a real B****r for inter bank transfers particularly if you couple it with all their other restrictions.

For me this has been a bigger issue than lack of FP
