Went to Lidl today :(

Options
As the gf was away this weekend i couldn't go to asda and do my normal shop as i don't have a car. So instead i thought it was about time i took the advice of many people on here and go to the Lidl which is about a 10 minute walk from my house....and to be honest i was pretty dissapointed.

I was just after some bits and bobs, in particular these came up

Sausages
pork and apple - stated 58% pork, 3% apple, - £1.89
Went to tesco next door - pork and apple - 83% pork 13% apple - £2.17
Much better quality, bigger for an extra 0.28p

6x Wholemeal rolls
Lidl - 49p
I get 18 for 96p at asda

100% pure orange juice
Lidl - 1.10
Asda - £1.00

Apples
6x £1.05 at lidl
6 x around 99p at asda if smartprice (i usually buy ones about £1.42)

The chicken fillets also seem to be of low quality and high priced though can't recall exact prices - whenever i went to pick something up it was either cheaper elsewhere or of low quality with gunk in...and the fruit was also starting to go funny

The only decent priced items i got were my cereal for 79p and there were so items of half decent price which i didnt need but wouldnt go into the store in the hope of finding them again.

Took me aslong as it would of done on a big supermarket shop as i couldnt find nowt, did i just go to a crap store?

I know what you mean Crazy Guy. I think the quality is poor too, and some things not any cheaper than Tesco value.

I go to Waitrose mostly now. I know it is regarded as expensive, but when I
did a virtual Tesco shop online 'buying' the same things I'd bought at Waitrose the price difference was 67p (less at Tesco) which I thought was pretty good.

I don't rate it highly either, same with ALDI. Some things I will get from there if passing like the redbull copy stuff DP likes, passatta etc which TBH is the same price as Tescos/ASDA etc but like you have said prices aren't that much different, some things definately more expensive, quality isn't always there either. I suppose it depends what things you buy usually to if it saves you money or not. Fruit and veg in my local store also regularly is starting to go off when you buy it.
One day I might be more organised...........

usually peeps rave about the meat in Lidl so maybe you picked a bad day or it is a bad store....or maybe the products you usually buy arent the best at Lidl - I find that some places are better for somethings than others. I dont supermarket shop anymore so havent a clue about prices, could it be that you are comparing some 'value' type items with Lidl's you really need to compare average prices not value - thinking the rolls here
Shame you had a bad shopping trip tho ...

I wouldn't touch their sausages - I notice they are low on meat content too. I think I may have bought a pack of their highest meat sausages but they were awful. I tend to buy my meat from a local butchers.

I think some things are a similar price to supermarkets OB stuff, but are better quality. I like their bread rolls - much nicer than the Tesco/Asda value ones (which I personally wouldn't buy) and I haven't generally had any problems with fruit and veg spoiling too quickly.

I tend to use them (ie Aldi and Lidl) for staples - I prefer their tinned chopped tomatoes, even if they are a little more expensive than Tesco. I also get my OJ, Apple juice, passata, decent cooked ham etc from there and I find their jam and biscuits and some cereal to be cheaper and/or better quality. Maybe you have a bad store, maybe you picked a bad day or maybe the particular things that you tend to buy are cheaper or better quality elsewhere. It's all horses for courses as they say. Personally I hate Asda food, and Mr T out of principal - not that it totally stops me from shopping at Tesco's

I tried them a couple of weeks ago for the first time and wasn't wildly impressed either. They were ok but not as amaziongly cheap I expected having read posts in here. There were no toilets (bad news for a toddler that can't hold it), but it was a lot quieter than the likes of Asda and more relaxing in that respect. My 3 year old was able to roam a bit freer that I would'v let him in Asda!

I bought some pullups for my son, they were rubbish and leaked every night. I won't be visiting again.

I go if the frozen food is on half-price for the tuna steaks - two for 99p. They are big and delicious.

I made the mistake of buying some washing-up liquid there once and it does actually smell like spew!

I agree about the fruit and veg, whenever i have bought it there,m it always goes off really quickly.
I am looking forward to a store opening up near me tho, because at the moment, if i just want milk, i tend to go to Waitrose, and end up buying loads of stuff (lovely quality, and great choice), but if i popped to Lidls for milk, i would only get milk - one of the other reasons would be that they dont take credit cards, which i tend to need if i overspend!!!
