I've recently discovered some great products at Lidl and would love to hear other people's views about what's hot and what's not at Lidl !

I find Lidl good for quite a few things, but off the top of my head these are the things I generally buy from there:

Recycled loo rolls, 12 for £1.19
Dishwasher tablets, £1.79 for 30
Rinse Aid - can't remember the price, but you get twice as much as Tesco own brand for less money
Their Black Forest Ham is fab - tastes much better than Tesco (and is much cheaper).

Actually, I find their cooked meats and cheeses to be the best I've come across.

Some of their bakery items are good - in particular their croissants and pain au chocolat.

I'd be interested to see what other people have tried...

Thanks Ishtar. My favourite product so far has to be the jams. I've posted about these on a different thread. The "Maribel" and "Primadonna" jams are nicer than other supermarket jams by far and good value for money.

I also love the cloudy apple juice and red grape juice, at 79p a carton.

I love their pasta sauce and the family enjoy their chilled pepperoni pizza. I find their nappies are better than the leading brands and much cheaper. As somebody said the jams are good and the loo roll although not the softess on the market it does the job. Their chocolate and alcohol are reasonable quality and price. Olive oil is also very good value and every now and then they have large bags of basmati rice for £7.99. The only things we found that wasn't up to the job where the washing powder and dishwasher tablets. The washing powder just clumped up in the draw and most would not disolve so the clothes weren't as fresh as they could. The dishwasher tablets bleached the designs on the crockery but took 2 tablets to get anywhere near the cleaning quality of finish.

I keep meaning to get down there and try a few things, esp. nappies, as everyone keeps saying how cheap they are.

One thing though, my MIL's toilet got blocked and she had to call Dynorod or someone. When they came out they unblocked it and charged about £90 :eek: :eek:

The man said it was the Lidl toilet roll she'd been using, apparently it doesn't dissolve and hence is more likely to block the loo. I don;t know how many types of loo roll they do but it worked out expensive for her!!

Good List:
Extra virgin olive oil -fantastic at the price.
Serrano/parma/black forest ham - really good quality.
Bacon, continental sausages etc
Mozzarella, and indeed all their cheeses.
Pizzas - both frozen and fresh (not OS but who cares!)
All their veggies are cheap and very good quality (they now even do organic ones). Their garlic is a fantastic price.
Pasta and rice are great little staples.
Italian gelato
Most of the sweets and chocolate that I've tried have been good.
Pistachios
Flowers - not to eat obviously
Salt, pepper, sugar, herbs etc are fine
Wine and beers that I've tried have been good

Bad List:
The half pounds of butter in the white wrappers....don't think they're as salty as UK butter and so taste a bit funny, like Spanish butter
Again, some of the chocolate is a little too sweet for UK palates.
Not a fan of the Cien range of toiletries.

Of course, bear in mind if you try anything you don't like you can bring the wrapper back and they'll refund the money. To be honest, I buy most of my store cupboard staples there - I've seen several of the things for sale in continental supermarkets while on holidays.

We get their bake at home bread rolls (lovely with soup!), antibacterial wipes, milk, "can't believe it's not butter" knock off, shreddies knock off, weetabix knock off, muesli, tinned rice pudding, pesto, crumpets, not forgetting the non-food things they have on special offer. Some horrible person on another Lidl thread here posted about the packs of five little bars of white chocolate you can get there for £1 - of course I had to try them, and now I'm hooked!!!!! Oh and we discovered last week that they do gorgeous smelling bars of olive oil soap for about 30p.

I agree with most of the other posters (although we have not had the same trouble with the washing powder).

Would definitely recommend:
mozarella - really cheap and very nice
nappies - great for cheap disposable nappies
tinned tomatoes/sweetcorn also good
fresh flowers - excellent value and last for days
herbs - both fresh and dried are very cheap.

Our local Lidl has very cheap fruit and veg too, from time to time. Great avocadoes and aubergines.

The LIDL shower gel for 29p (often reduced to about 23p) is good, OK so you need to use a bit more of it than you would a more expensive one but it still works out much better value and smells nice.

Freeway Cola is very good too, by far the best unbranded cola IMO (have tried virtually all of them) and only 49p a bottle for 2 Litres.

My wife likes the Belgian Shells (Fake Gulians) which are often on offer at £1.29 a box (normal price £2.29 I believe).

The Rowan Hill bakery sliced bread is very nice too (59p a loaf).
