I think the note needs to make clear that you are an individual not an estate agents. that way the note gets kept. EA notes get binned as its easy to find the number if you wanted to ring them.

We get the "we have people interested in properties in your road" all the time from estate agents, so why not its more personal0

I did it once, I was looking in a particular area of London and had identified about 3 streets with the right sort of house (small and cheap), printed off a personal letter saying I was a genuine private buyer looking in that area etc. Every single house that was on with an agent and quite a few that were not yet on (but were thinkng) contacted me, including the owner of a local EA that was selling her house! Unfortunately I never got my flat sold so I couldn't buy, but from my experience I would say, particularly if you have a particular area in mind, definately give it a go.I am a Mortgage Adviser

I get leaflets through the door from estate agents at least once a week (I am in Stony) and I bin those, even though we may be looking to sell in a few months, which is why I wondered if others took notice and if a personal note might be better!indiegirl wrote:I've just realised Red that you are in MK (I'm so slow - we discussed Solicitors not long ago!) perhaps it's more common practice around our way!
MK Property Sales do it all the time around where I'm looking to move to (MK13 - but only the nicer parts!), which is why I'm cautious about it as most people will think "oh no, not another leaflet" and just bin it.
Norma thank you for the details - even though you didn't want or need to move at the time the note obviously was decent enough to make you think "had I wanted to move, I would've contacted them"

we are looking to do this in the next week, we lost a house a a new estate about a month back now and there are only a further 8 on the estate which are similar houses. We were told by the estate agent that he has already spoken to these property owners but all of them are fairly new owners so he said it will be a few years in his opinion before anyone wants to move.
wifes going to post a handwritten note explaining that we like the house, position etc and if there ever thinking of moving within the next few months please give us a call.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Hi,
We did this, I wrote asking. If you are thinking of selling you house we would be intrested in buying, We are a family who have moved from the area and would like to move back. We are in a good position with no chain and would be able to complete quickly.
Later that week I received a telephone call from a lady who had to sell the family home after probate.
We viewed, agreed a price, and arranged a servey. The lady selling the house, said that, we had made a job she had been dreading very easy and stress free!
I would recomend doing this to anyone. You never know it might just pay and you may end up with the house of your dreams, We have and houses don't often come up for sale around here. You also know if the price is right because the servey will give you a valuation.
I leafleted 5 addresses in the same road, You only need one reply!!:D:kisses3: Everyday above ground is a bonus!!:D0 -
Yes we did this too! Walked around the area picked out a few houses, did a letter drop along the lines of it'smeinits letter, got two telephone calls, and bought one of the houses. Saved a lot of leg work for both parties.
The seller we bought from had only the week prior reserved a 'new build' so was more than pleased. We were sitting in rented property on a month to month basis so could fit in with their entry date. Go for it!:j0 -
My Mum and Dad bought a house this way, wrote an individual letter explaining why they would love to live in this house etc and received a phone call from the owner agreeing to sell. You have nothing to lose0

This is what I think as well. Just need to compose my note.LisaT186 wrote:You have nothing to lose
