Hello - some technical help needed please! I'm a bit lost
I have some digital photos I want to edit and play with a little (turn some to black and white/sepia etc). How can I do this? I have adobe photoshop on my PC, but it's rubbish and I can't do anything other than crop.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? or recommend some free software I could use?
Many Thanks in advance

What version of Photoshop, have you tried the help?
Adobe Photoshop is the best package out there, it's not rubbish - the problem you have is no skills in Photoshop, you can't blame the application for that. You need to learn and increase your knowledge, find a good book for the version you have and read it - Photoshop is a massively complex application, I've been using it for 15 years and still don't know every command!
If you don't want to use photoshop. the GIMP or Paint.Net are the next bet freebies, but nothing can hold a torch to Photoshop.0 -
Photoshop is the daddy really, but I have found Picassa pretty straightforward to use......0

It sounds like Photoshop is a far too complex package for your needs, or you can't be bothered to master it. If you just want simple effects like B&W or sepia, try using Irfanview which is free here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Whatever you're looking to do with your photos do a google search with tutorial afterwards, it's helped me out for many different styles.
For example, most recently I googled Andy Warhol Effect Photoshop Tutorial and I was able to follow steps to get the Marilyn Monroe type effect I wanted and it came out quite well.
Or you could start out just doing basic tutorials, it's a handy enough programme to use but probably very difficult to master-don't give up on it though.
Good luck with it0 -

ok - good point about photoshop and its my skills rather than the application - but the version I have only lets me crop the photos and adjust red eye? its the starter edition 3.0. I have tried every menu and option and can't find anything else!
Thanks for all the tips - think I'll try a few others first and see how I get on.
Appreciate all your help guys - thanks xr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
