Does anyone else suffer from this?
It's really getting out of control now. I have always loved the high, and taste and happiness it gives me, but its making my weight spiral out of control.
I really want to beat it, but I start a new day and then fail miserable. I don't buy it in the house, but it doesn't stop me from having it. Loads in the house (something I can't stop, tried, other family want it and wont hide it)
The feeling of wanting a lot is overwhelming. I become upset, miserable and go mad if I am deprived from it. Mad! Apparently its as addictive as cocaine!
Help! Does anyone have any tips?
Is there a pill out there to help? lol

It isn't 'addictive' in the medical sense of the word.
It's a 'habit' just like thumb sucking or taking a teddy bear to bed.
I have 'issues' with cheese every now and again! But giving it the label 'addictive' doesn't help you do what you need to do. Control it at a reasonable level.
If it were addictive, then like alcohol or drugs, the only way to 'get better' would be to give up completely for the rest of your life.
Is that what you want?
I couldn't face life with no cheese ever again, so I just have it occasionally. Having a little bit doesn't make me disappear for lost weekends over to Wenslydale though! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
It used to be that going 'cold turkey' was thought to be the best way to give up, but now I believe that cutting down and having a plan is the more effective way.
You write down how much choccy you eat now eg 10 x 250g bars a day and where you want to get to eg 1x 100g bar a day and work out logical steps to get there-usually 10 steps but it doesn't have to be and then a timescale.
You can find details of this method on the internet(elsewhere, I mean )

If I could do it then yea, as I would be slim for life I think. As thats my only 'issue'.
I am like an alcoholic with it though, as in I can't have one square I have to have the whole lot. ALways been like it. Maybe I should try doing it cold turkey.0 -
vikki, I know where you are coming from. Some days go by and I find I haven't eaten proper food, only chocolate! Cold turkey may be the way to go for me lolIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

When you feel the crave coming on either brush your teeth or eat something pickled. You can beat it but only if you really want to. I firmly believe that Vikki is not your real name and that you are really my sister. She can't kick the stuff either and now that she lives alone can't have it in the house or it's gone, gone, gone0

Ah Vikki - you know I'm a chocoholic too and I won't tell you exactly how much of the stuff I've eaten in the last few days. I've just had to take the easter eggs I've bought for people over to my mums so I don't have to replace them AGAIN!!
I'll watch this thread with interest..and try some of the tips - It could save me a fortune in ££'s and lbs!!Really should be doing some work...0 -
I gave up chocolate 5 weeks ago as part of a diet. Yes the cravings were hell!
I've since gone from 16stone5lbs to 14 stone 12lbs - not just by cutting out choc!
Now I have introduced it back a bit, I have low fat hot choc drinks, and I keep mini milky ways in the freezer (takes longer to eat)
I also gave up crisps, cake, take aways, pizza, biscuits and fizzy pop at the same time!0 -
Is it chocolate or sugar that you're addicted to?
If it's the former, I suggest you switch to dark chocolate, at least 70% cocoa, but 80% and 85% are the best. Just one square (10 grams) of chocolate so rich, so deep, almost bittersweet, satisfies my tastebuds enormously.
On the other hand, if it's milk chocolate bars that you can't get enough of, then I'd say it's a sugar addiction. The only way I know to address that would be some form of low carb diet, and cold turkey on sugars.
Good luck!Cogito, ergo sum.0 -
I have had my last bar of dairy filled chocolate, and as of tomorrow I shall have no more. I have to go all-out, or I'll let it back in. And being lactose intolerant doesn't help....probably that what's messed my tummy up....So as of now, I shall only be having the sugar free sweets and no chocolate, then I'll phase out the sweets altogether.
It's gonna be hard, but there's loads of fruit in the house if I want something sweet.
Wish me luck.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

I agree, give the dark stuff a go (the proper dark stuff, not cadburys bournville! start at 70% and go upwards) , takes a little getting used to initally but one or two squares will totally satisfy you as its too rich to eat a lot of. After a while, if you taste the average chocolate bar you will wonder how you ever ate the sickly sweet sugary rubbish!0
