I'd really like to find one which has a lot of old-fashioned recipes in.. maybe wartime, or 50's & 60's. Like the stuff my nan learned to cook and still cooked until she died in the 80's.

You know the type... rib-sticking, yummy, home-made, warm, cuddly comfort food :D

LOVE the title.. I got it from my library but there didnt seem to be a whole lot in there iI'd actually fancy eating :( admittedly thats cos a lot of the room was taken up with cakes and biscuits and puds which I just don't eat...have to say I am a little surprised at the OS peeps on here who still think you have to eat a pudding after your main meal.Perhaps that was what they were brought up having but in our house we just tended to have the main meal and we never went hungry.I always want to say to people who want to know how to cut their budget down - stop having cakes, biscuits etc.. even homemade they are still junk food imo and extra calories.

Good wartime cookbooks are these two by Marguerite Patten

    We'll Eat Again
    The Victory Cookbook

There are also some reproduction wartime books about -Eat For Victory, Good Fare and Good Eating

Delia's Frugal Food has good old-fashioned recipes.

The Pauper's Cookbook by Jocasta Innes is my favourite frugal cookbook.

My local Waterstone's has a special display of Credit Crunch Cookbooks.

There are some brilliant student ones out there.. I highly recommend anything by Cas Clarke.. I had all 8 of hers when I was at Uni and after living on the dole and her food is cheap and yummy,
