Next security contacting re. listing?

I was selling a £65 refund voucher on ebay. Today, on the third day of the listing I received the following message :

This is Next's Security Department.

We would like to advise you that your sale of a Next Refund Card is an infringement of the terms and conditions of use which are detailed on the back of the card, in particular the card is not for re-sale and is for use by the original recipient only.

This card may be blocked for any future use.

If this card is presented for payment in a Next store or against a Next Directory account, it may be declined.

Please ensure that you pass this information on to your purchasers.

To verify the authenticity of this message please contact Next Giftcard on 0844 412 0300, Option 2

Anyone ever been contacted by companies about their listings before?

Forgot to say I found this message highly dubious - how could they block the card when they dont know what number it is or who is holding it?
  • Babe, I would have thought the listing would have been removed if it was an infringement of the terms and conditions. Usually eBay would have contacted you.

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.
  • Maybe they (or a friend) are hoping to win it for a rock bottom price. Or more likely its a premium rate phone line. And they'll be after you personal details.

Well actually I did get an email from ebay removing the listing that I have just seen, but that was down to using the Next logo as the picture.

It says Next contacted them in writing and asked for it to be removed for that reason.

Still doesnt explain the first message.
  • I would call their bluff, reply stating you want full written terms and conditions that state it is non transferable. When did they register ? There have been countless next vouchers sold so why you ?

Is it true that you can make payments on a next directory with a refund card , i didnt think you could .

It was a refund card, and it does say on the back that you cannot resell it.

However, thats a bit irrelevant in this case since there is no way it can be traced.

Yeah, you can make payments to Next directory with a refund card quoting the card number and PIN.
  • So you can relist as long as you don't use the NEXT logo.

    Have you checked the T&Cs?

They may not have the info they need to block that card... but somehow Next got the listing pulled. I suppose there could have been several violations... and the logo was the one they reported.

    Edit: slow post.

If you'd been daft enough to take a photo of the card, they probably would have been able to stop it. It sounds like they're certainly going to stop you selling it on ebay.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I'm not a regular ebayer at all and for the picture just downloaded the Next logo and used that.

I am going to wait a few days and relist.

If you relist and the auction is pulled again then depending on your length of time on ebay you might face getting suspended. If something cannot be transferred or passed to a second person, then by all means try it once and see if it escapes notice, but once warned, leave well alone.
