pm sent to VG with original thread from marg/this thread & all relevant info :)

Thanks for the PM fire**fly as I don't generally read the chat corner unless I'm in the unusual position of having spare time on my hands or someone sends me a PM to alert me that I need to have a look at something.

Short answer: I don't believe Sprinkle.com should be added to the Spam list in the Comping Guide - stop reading here if that's all you want to know :)

If you want to know more, grab a cup of tea/coffee/sofrt drink and read on....

I've waded through the whole of this thread and the other about Sprinkle.com and can't see of any reason why this site should be added to the Comping Guide spam list

Although I maintain and update the spam list, it is based on reports from compers that there's been spam issues (usually floods of compers come forward to say they've had issues) and the experiences of seasoned compers (who kinda know what to look for and when things don't look quite right).

This is how it looks to me:

    • Many companies post their comps on here initially as they don't realise they aren't supposed to. Once Sprinkle.com knew they shouldn't, they stopped.
    • Sprinkle.com has lots of winners - so doesn't strike me as one of those dodgy fake sites that promise prizes that never materialise and your spam box starts to groan under the influx of unwanted emails from them.
    • Sprinkle.com has actually gone to the trouble of gaining permission from MSE towers to post as an officially recognised company on here.
    • Rich (Sprinkle.com) has taken the time to answer questions, no matter how they were phrased AT him and asked how Sprinkle can improve things if we have specifics that are making us uncomfortable. (Thanks Rich!)
    • There were a handful compers who've mentioned spam... many more (who I recognise as people who have comped for much longer - no slight intended to anyone here) are saying they don't have any issues - which leads me to think perhaps the people receiving the spam haven't found the settings to turn it off, or that it isn't Sprinkle.com that is the cause of this spam.
    • There is a really easy to use interface here (when logged in) to say 'yes' or 'no' to the communications you want them to be able to send you.
    • There's a really easy to find and use way to close your account here at the bottom of the page, headed up really clearly 'Close account'.
    • I'm not receiving any spam from them and have been entering their comps on and off since Marg2k8 has been posting them on MSE (thanks Marg2k8!)
    • All sorts of companies have the phrase about sending data outside of the EEA, banks, shops, forums to name a few. It's never been something to get our knickers in a twist over in the past and I don't intend to start now. In my opinion, it reinforces the global nature of the internet and how data moves around nowadays.
    • Comp T&C that I've read, usually always mention that my details will be passed on to the company providing the prize - fantastic! Otherwise, how would they know where to send it?
So, I really don't see any cause for concern and any reason for the Sprinkle.com representative being treated, by some, in such a rude and antagonistic way. Is that really what we've become on MSE? I hope not :(

As with any comps posted on MSE, each member makes up their own mind whether to enter a particular competition or not... I will still be entering the Sprinkle.com comps as nothing on this thread has made me reassess this personal decision.
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
