Good evening,
Ginny I'd be dizzy with relief if I was as organised as you are with Christmas, please send me your Magic wand, or fairy powder, or whatever you use!
MOS thank you, it is indeed lovely to have curtains. I hope you have a lovely time out with your DH and that your DD enjoys herself too but dies not leave too much mess.
Another NSD today, 8/10, so there is an outside chance that I might manage the challenge, and it is 3 consecutive days too!
What a lovely day today, I really enjoyed walking in the sunshine. Then sorted out a few things, finally I have an appointment for my gynae visit, but it us on 23rd December. I just hope I don't have something too serious. Trying not to think about it.
Work with the boys was lovely today, the older one came into the school to call me and see the beauty of the playing field covered in mist, with an amazing sunset red sky in the background, it was magical. The boys wanted to go running on the field with their friends and of course I let them, they were like a happy bunch of puppies, skipping in the early evening light and half disappearing in the mist.
I gave them a late dinner so wasn't finished tidying the kitchen when the mum arrived but it did not matter. Sometimes I really love what I do (some other times I don't though).
Dinner was risotto with the last piece of allotment squash and it was delicious.
Our poor allotment, so neglected, we haven't been there for weeks. Will have to make an effort next year as now it is too late to do anything. If the weather permit DH and I might do dome preparation work over the Christmas holidays.
Tomorrow mystery shop early and in central London so I am having an early night. Hope you all had a great OS day.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I've been catching up on my paperwork and OU studies today. The things that required too much brain power to deal with when I felt so ill. I'm still a bit poorly (2 weeks and a day into this cold) because asthma makes colds feel like they are lasting forever but I think I'm mostly recovering.
I have a savings card for @sda with £60 on it that will do our food supplies for Christmas week and the week after. I don't like going near the supermarkets the week before Christmas because they just become stupidly busy, so I'll probably do our shopping nearer the beginning of December. We're having Christmas at home this year, me and the boy. Since dh died two months before Christmas in 2009 we've been invited out for Christmas meals but as this year marks a new start in our new (to us) house, we're staying put on our own and we will just enjoy being lazy and doing as we please.
Ginny, we had our parcel today thank you, and the jellyfish was so impressive that I let him have it. He's taken it to bed with him. My new shopping bags are lovely too.
The only other news is that my cauliflowers have the beginnings of proper cauli middles in them. I only have a small raised bed down behind the shed and I've never grown veg before, only fruit in the garden in the other house, so this is a first. I'll keep you all posted if I manage to grow anything that we can eat. Oh, and I managed to do some of my crochet ripple blanket too. It's coming on slowly but surely.0 -

I had a lovely day yesterday DS2 had 3 yr old kindy (its a half day once a week) and DS3 and I went to visit a friend, we both have 3 boys and had a giggle at the 'are you going to try for a girl?' questions we both seem to be getting lately
Yesterday I had a nsd :T and today will be as well as its going to be bl**dy hot here today so its water play in the back yard for the boys and lots of cold drinks.
Maybe a load of washing and the bathrooms cleaned, we'll see :undecidedLove people use things. The opposite never works.0 -
Good morning,
Thank you Amandaatnumber7, will copy the link for the recipe collectors and might give it a go myself, although this is a very low key Christmas, without DD around it would appear :-(
OS plan for the day:
Off to my mystery shop now, then food shopping, cooking lunch for DS and myself and dinner for all, then work with the boys.
Tonight a friend is having dinner with me, she is a knitting wizard so I shall ask her about my never ending jumper!
Have a good OS day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
You're in good company on the 23rd Caterina, my small son has an appointment to see if he needs an op for an undescended testicle. I will have everything crossed for the best possible outcome for both of you.0

Im glad the parcel arrived Cranky and that the house elf liked his jellyfish!
Christmas meat cooked, sliced and frozen - enough tender lamb for 5 mels for the 2 of us. Beef need slicing next. Going to spend my tesco orchard vouchers next and take pretty pics of my makes to put on the site which will hopefully be rewarded with more vouchers.
Things are tight here moneywise but I will not be beatenClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Good evening,
Thank you Cranky and best wishes to your son too for his op.
Ginny, I am sure you won't be beaten, you are a veteran, If OS was an army you'd be a General! You are really capable and I am sure you will overcome this difficult moment.
Good day today, mystery shop, then food shopping, lunch, work with boys, then a lovely time in the evening, a friend came to dinner and I cooked chick pea and chestnut soup, an old recipe from the area north of Rome (Viterbo), and salad, she brought avocado and we cracked open a bottle of Prosecco. She helped me with some knitting and we had a nice catch up.
DH still not back from his professional development seminar, but I am tired so here I am in bed. He will find nice food and some Prosecco in the kitchen when he's back so he won't complain.

Hello all,
Not much done today, I was a lazy girl and did not manage to do much this morning, apart from making the usual breakfast and packed lunch for DH, then going back to bed with a nice mug of tea.
DS, bless him, made breakfast, a yummy mushroom and mozzarella cheese omelette which kept me going until afternoon, it was so good and filling.
I helped him fix a problem with his bank, Ama z on had deducted the money of a purchase twice and so he ended up in the red and his bank was going to charge him £15. So I spoke to them and it should be sorted, they have removed the charge and said that the interest will be pennies, and to claim it back from the seller. We will do it if it is worth it, but making a call if it is around 10p seems more aggro and probably more cost in calling than the money we would get back. On the other hand I could try and ask for some compensation "for the inconvenience caused", and a nice little voucher just before Christmas. See how it goes.
I also got him to ask online for a small overdraft, as he did not have any, and he got accepted immediately for £200. I explained to him not to go anywhere near an overdraft but to have it is worth it for occasions like this one. He is rather sensible with money and hates to be in debt - when I lend him even a fiver he is really anxious to get it back to me as soon as he can, so I am comfortable that he will use the overdraft facility wisely, if at all.
Then I went to stock up on dry goods in the big T£sco that was opened not far from us. It has the dubious reputation of having been voted the ugliest building in London (or even in the UK, not sure) this year, by some architectural mag. But to me it is just a shop and I don't think it looks any uglier than many other supermarkets around.
Anyway, I got a lot of nice stuff, really good prices on pulses and grains and they stock really good Polish bread, sourdough mix of wheat and rye, which I found YSd and stocked up on that too. Almonds are very reasonably priced too, which is good as we use lots of almonds and other nuts for snacks and to make milk.
There was a food bank collection, which is good because I had meant to make a collection and never got around to doing it, instead this time it was just a case of buying and dropping into the box at the entrance of the shop. T£sco claims that they will add 30% of all donations. Good.
Back home, I put some lentils to cook in the pressure cooker, a laundry in the machine (got to get it out now), then I had a nice leftover salad lunch and some HM yogurt with jam and a few almonds (could not resist!).
Now online, paid a bill and sorted out my emails. Time to go downstairs to prepare some dinner.
Tonight is back to babysitting in the evening as the girls' mum is back from her week in Abu Dhabi (good for some LOL).
On my return from babysitting I need to teach DH how to go into the electronic banking system as he needs to update his martial arts payment standing order. Just about time he takes some interest in how we keep the accounts, so if I get hit by a bus he knows how to get into the bank!
Have a good OS evening. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hello,
I am very happy today, as I have finally registered myself for the Tai Chi class at the local Chinese Community Centre. The same man who teaches for free in the park also teaches the Thursday class here. Very reasonably priced as I had to get a membership for £10 then pay for classes until end of April for £20. This also includes Tuesday classes, so if I want I can do twice per week (but if the weather is good I prefer to go to the park, even when it is cold).
I have done all my mystery shopping bookings for the next few days and there does not seem to be anything else for the month of December, and not even a lot of babysitting by the look of it, so I shall have to be super frugal, not much money coming in.
It is becoming apparent that DD is not coming to visit us for Christmas, not that I am surprised, but her dad and I might drive to see her if it feels right.
Off to work in a minute, today I am taking the boys to a toy store to buy them Christmas presents, I told them it would only be small things so they are prepared to get a big NO! to a xbox or anything fancy! Fiver each is the limit!
Tonight free babysitting for the neighbour across the road. I don't charge her and then she feeds my cat when we are all away.
Have a good OS evening. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
