Not very pleasant welcome to a newbie!
It may be minor in the grand scheme of things, but to OP it is important enough to post.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. £269 buys a new one. Or take your chances on eBay. We bought a Hotpoint one 6 years from the paper for £50. Its still going strong, it's made by Bosch but Hotpoint branded.
Keep an eye out on B&Q sales, or Hukd for one0 -
It would not be unreasonable to ask for a small financial contribution, however, you have to bear in mind that while you were originally expecting to have a working dishwasher, you would have had no guarantee as to how long it would work for - had it stopped working just *after* you moved in you would have no come back.
When I was selling my house, my oven broke 48 hours before completion. I got a repairman to check it, and he confirmed that due to its age (no idea how old it was but it wasn't new when I moved in and that was over 10 years before) it would be difficult to get parts and that it would take at least a week to get them, and that the fix was likely to be expensive. He recommended replacing the oven.
I contacted my buyers, via my solicitors, to explain the situation and we agreed to a £50 contribution from me.
When I moved into my new home I found that the dishwasher didn't work and that the fridge-freezer didn't work properly. I was annoyed that the sellers had not told me, as it would have made life much simpler had they removed them, (or even had they told me, so I could have arranged for them to be removed when I moved in)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Well, in that case, we might as well all shut up shop and not ask anything or post anything.
What a truly useless observation.:hello:0 -
If the dishwasher wasn't there - would you have not offered on the house, or would you have put a lower offer in on the house?
If the honest answer to both of these is "no" then just consider as it wasn't there to start of with and be glad you didn't move in, found it broken without any knowledge and have to go get one, at least you can put money aside/allowances for it now.0 -

I'm sure you mean that the people of Gaza continue to be oppressed by the terrorist nazi regime they voted in to power and now have to suffer because of them.
That these terrorists take aid, concrete, tools and build terror tunnels and not schools and hospitals for their people.
Is this what you meant? Or was it just an anti semitic dig at Israel which has nothing to do with this thread at all?0 -
Firstly thanks to all the replies! Some really good points and opinions.
It was detailed as being left on the fixtures and fittings and in working condition.
I will negotiate a reasonable amount back, but also be prepared to purchase an alternative.0 -
For the sake of a £200 dishwasher if you like the house you should buy it. You can wash the dishes in the sink until you get things sorted.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
