    Yeah, "removal" does mean complete removal. Although, depending how observant the tester is, I've known shoving them totally out of sight down the seat cushion to work with all-fabric belts :D

    Fold the rear seats down so they cant test it.
  • They've obviously part of the test, as it failed the test for this reason... or am I missing something?
    Whip out the belt and retainer, job done.

    I once replaced a complete inertia seat belt and mechanism with a brand new one for £30 (a Nissan Micra).
    It was a bolt-off bolt-on job took 20 mins. But it took a while to find the correct part... best places are the big motor factor depots that have a counter.

    No. because you can re-fit it after the MOT.

    I can see Joe has quoted the manual and it makes sense to me. So I agree with him.

    But you have to remove all of the centre belt, and that may not be an easy job, and it may not be possible to do that and leave the two outer belts in place. ..... Because, on my car, the centre clip is attached to the same bracket as the outer belt clip...... they are both on the same bracket held by a single bolt, so I could not remove the centre clip unless I cut the cable with bolt cutters, and I wouldn't want to do that as I would not be able to fix it in the future without going to a scrapyard for a new double clip bracket.

    If you ask me, the simplest method will be to remove the entire rear seat. You can leave the two outer belts fitted, they only become testable items if there is a seat fitted. No seat - no fail. I've done this on my car for the last 5 years.
