All the buyer signed was a receipt, the working of which I got from the Internet and wrote in a previous post.

It's a pity you didn't read up on the internet on how to sell a car at the same time ;)

I don't have, and have never been given a paying in book. This is just a simple card account.
I was given a handwritten stub, stamped by the bank.

Okay but does the receipt actually state the number of cheques paid in?

Oh wow, another person who cannot read....
    There are SEVEN CHEQUES.
The bank added up and deposited SEVEN cheques.

Well clearly they didn't, otherwise you would see 7 cheques on your bank statement and not 6, plus they would have a copy of the 7th cheque, and the account number, sort code and cheque number of that cheque, but they don't seem to have any of that information. So they only deposited 6 cheques.

I've probably missed this but, you paid the cheques in & only released the car to the buyer when the bank confirmed the cheque had cleared? How did you contact the buyer at that point, this was a week after he'd paid wasn't it? Purely from the call list on your phone? Which it's now gone from?

My bank statement only shows one value, and it says cheques, not the number of or individual amounts.
The receipt stub says 7 cheques and a total amount, again these are not listed individually.

We had pre-arranged to meet on Thursday, which is a day after the bank said the funds would be cleared and available. I didn't need to contact him to arrange anything after that.

I think you've probably got all you're going to get from this thread.

It'll probably just be down-hill from here. Perhaps look to close it off, and come back if you have any further specific questions.

One more question for OP who has a simple card account - what were the other cheque amounts and how much were they for and where did the money come from.

OP, if you have a stamped receipt from lloyds which shows you paid in 7 cheques, including the cheque for £10k, take your issue to the FOS.

    I will do thanks.
