Not at all. He's shrewd - I'm amazed he managed to persuade Clegg into becoming part of the Nigel Farage show.

I can't name another UKIP member though apart from Geoffrey Bloom. That's where his problem lies - no depth.

Putting UKIP aside. Farage is the face of public opinion. The electorate want open debate on the topic of Europe. A voice. Not be dictated to by faceless bureaucrats in Brussels.

You have a say. It's called the general election.

The general election is asking you to vote for the government.

It's nothing to do with whether we would like to be in or out of the EU.

I think I have just typed the most obvious point I've ever typed.

Many people do switch their votes. As in the main policies aren't miles apart. An issue such as Europe could be decisive.

My theory is that Clegg knows that the lib dems will be annihilated at the next election and that their best chance of limiting some of the damage is to get Tory voters to vote UKIP by making Nigel "I like going to the pub so vote for me" Farage appear credible.

And then toddle of to a nice little earner as a commissioner. No need to worry about little annoyances such a voters any more.

Mayonaise would fit in well with Foggy Clegg....can't trust the public with a referendum, you might get the wrong answer....

I thought Ferage was brilliant. Slightly scarey eyes, but clearly a very clever and straight spoken man. I didn't think I was going to be impressed with him...but I was, very much so.

He showed Foggy up as a professional smarm merchant. Let's not forget that Cleggy made his money and connections by sucking up on the Euro gravy train as part of the european commission. His most dear belief is to expand the tentacles of the EU.

Of course he can't best Farage on reflection, Clegg is a cosmopolitan internationalist, related to foreign aristocracy, with a very privileged and well connected background who probably can't understand the perspective of the common-sense man in the street. Farage really does understand that common sense perspective and speaks to it, whether you agree with him or not.

I thought he was spot on about the beneficiaries of the EU - professional politicians and big business, and that's why there's such resistance to any change.

    I'm a Farage convert.

Hehe, apparently big business doesn't really like the outcome of the debate tonight.....the papers have followed up (at least 2 apparently) by removing it from their front page in order not to give a "leg up" to Farage.

    No you can't.
Because the public doesn't have to necessary knowledge to make an informed decision. Democracy should not be a popularity contest.
If you want the UK out of EU, then you can vote for a party that wants the UK out of the EU. Fair enough, no?
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Well no of course they don't.
Because big business knows the cost of leaving the EU all too well.

The interests of big business are not always in line with benefits for the population as a whole.

The banking collapse sort of showed this.
