OK For the Record : I like the magazines daily or otherwise ON THE MAIN BOARD
not shouting at anyone just putting my point across.
That being said....
If 5 mags are running 1 comp I do not see why we can not put all 5 links in 1 post (lets say on the main board as a, that's where they are for now and b, that's where I like them and this is my post)
Just my opinion
HTH"Knowledge will give you power, but character respect" ~ Bruce Lee0 -
I think that's a great idea if theres one prize shared between the mags, it's essentially like posting a normal comp and saying there are two ways you can enter this and you can enter by both of them, it's much easier to have them both in that one place, it saves everyone a lot of time.
I do think it's a little unfair for some people to look at the number of pages now on the board and suggest it's because of the dailies being posted the way they are though, at this time of the year the advents have always added a huge amount of pages to the board due to the sheer volume of them, it's just slightly unfortunate timing added to the fact that there are comps from the 1st to the 4th December also as I imagine the BG's are very busy at the minute.
Edit to add:
There are approximately 67 pages of comps ending 1st - 4th and going by the number of advents about 25 pages of them.0 -
so if they were posted like this..eg
(this one is taken from main board as an example)
E: 25/12 WIN! A Cookin' Creations Premium Wood Kitchen from Little Tikes (Daily mags)
3 Cookin’ Creations Premium Wood Kitchens to be won..
www.littletikes.co.uk
Little Tikes are giving away three of their fantastic Cookin’ Creations Premium Wood Kitchens, just in time for Christmas!
This very special kitchen is a gorgeous, luxury wooden toy painted in lovely pastel shades that offers everything aspiring little chefs might need. Featuring a stove top, oven and dishwasher all with clicking knobs, your little one has everything they need to cook up a storm, and even clean up too! Leave messages on the chalkboard for others to read, talk on the play phone, 'prepare' food from the 'fridge' and 'cook' it in the microwave, oven or on the stove - the magic oven door even has images that change as you play!
answer - Play phone, fridge and stove top
This competition is running concurrently on the websites of
www.womanmagazine.co.uk, www.womansown.co.uk, www.nowmagazine.co.uk, www.wotv.co.uk, www.pickmeupmagazine.co.uk, www.chatmagazine.co.uk,womansweekly.co.uk
...........................................................
then link it to the dailys mags posted the same
for the end of the daily mag thread..
then jambo has to update the 1st page with it
& that means jambo has to go through all the different mags...
www.womanmagazine.co.uk, www.womansown.co.uk, www.nowmagazine.co.uk, www.wotv.co.uk, www.pickmeupmagazine.co.uk, www.chatmagazine.co.uk,womansweekly.co.uk
to find the separate comp for the prize to add to the 1st page separate pages..
eg
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4827008
wouldn't that make 3 times more work for the op who runs the thread
Unless I'm missing something, couldn't the person that posts that one thread add the link for it (and the direct links to the mags if that's happening) into the post for all of the mags?
So
Mag Title
Title
Thread Link
Direct Link
Mag Title
Title
Thread Link
Direct Link
Mag Title
Title
Thread Link
Direct Link
Mag Title
Title
Thread Link
Direct Link
etc...
for JDP to copy and paste into the first page?
The title and thread link would be the same for all of them, so they could be C&P'ed by the person posting to the end of the thread to save time and effort, the only thing that needs to be done then are the mag titles and the direct links for each mag?0 -
I think that the idea is that the poster on the main board includes the direct links to the comps within their post.
However, as the mags thread is now Jambo links in lists of magazine to the main board thread, and thic would be tricky if one thread covered several mags.
The solution would be to post all 5 (or however many) links to the rubber chicken comp in the post on the main board, and then those direct links to be added to thr lists on the mags thread. This would avoid getting th mags mixed up in the lists and also restore what many of us have been asking for on the mags thread.
If the lists on the mags thread all ljnk to main board posts each covering several mags for the same proze, it will get very tricky and awkward when clicking through from the mags thread and trying to remeber whihc mag you are doing and how many comps you have done on that mag.
Not saying linking on main board is bad, just that there are consequences which also need to be worked through.
Probably not explained that very well but will be back later to try again if necessary!0 -

Yes, that's the idea. The main board post would have the links to all the magazines where you can enter, and the person organizing a Mag Daily thread can work off of that.Hi, I'm Mich

I'm not suggesting anything in respect of the overall magazine thread. That is up to whoever is managing it. I mean simply having the number of main forum posts go from 6 or 7 posts to a single post that has all the links in it.Hi, I'm Mich

Ok, this will be my only contribution here, but as im being accused of being one of the 'shouters' i might as well defend my point.
The site Money Saving Expert is here to help people save money. Some of the forum boards are purely here as an extra, such as this board, Competition Time, so please bare in mind that this board is not an essential part of MSE, and as we were warned a few years ago when we had a very long and heated discussion, it can be removed if it becomes a problem to run.
Also worth noting, is that unless you have an MSE in front of your user name, anyone who is posting is a volunteer (BGs, OPs, people chipping in with answers, links, dupe spotting etc). No one is paid, no one has to post anything if they dont want to, if you dont post, the chances are someone else will post instead of you.
If i decide im no longer going to post anything, nothing will change, someone else will just take over anything i do now, and this would be true for every single other poster.
Its about time people stop thinking of themselves and think about the ethos of this board - it would also be nice if the people who like stiring things and causing problems thought before they posted too - everyone on here is a real person, you never know how your comments are being taken.
So, the ethos, basically, is to post competitions, the link and an answer (if allowed) so that people can enter, and hopefully win.
The only stipulation is that for the smooth running of the board, and end date and prize is posted in the title of any competition that is posted.
For courtesy, its nice to put if something is from facebook, twitter, rafflecopter, effort, email is put as extra information in the title, but as im sure any regular comper will know, this doesnt always happen.
Of course, over time, as more people have started comping, a lot of excellent (and sometimes not so excellent) ideas come along to help the different ways that people comp, the main one being the regular board. This is run by volunteers and over the years i have seen many different people take over as the previous volunteers have had to stop, for whatever reason. These boards DO NOT replace the main board, but are purely there because as people get into the hobby of comping, they find different ways of entering and having these threads can really help them.
This does not take away the fact, that not all people comp in the same way. Personally, i comp from where i left off, some people comp by end date, some probably only use the sub board, some just go to the first page, and work there way through. Some people will enter anything and everything, some are more choosy and enter only certain competitions. Some have no idea what they are doing, but normally find if they post somewhere on this forum (normally a competition they want to enter, but have no idea how!) and someone will come along and help them.
Im sure there are other ways ive missed out, but this just makes my point. All competitions should be listed individually, so they can be found by everyone, and if anyone has posted a duplicate, this can be found and dealt with quickly and easily.
Too many people are thinking about how they enter competitions, and not about others. Believe me, if i was all about me, the board would not be run as it is now. The problem is, how i comp, and how i would like to see things would not be the right thing for everyone, so the only way to keep everyone happy is to have everything listed individually. (and yes, although i am happy with the puzzler/take a break threads, i do think they should be individual as well, but i have never known them posted any other way which is why i have not made a stand about them).
If anyone wants to volunteer to run a sub board, i have no problem with that, so however the magazine thread was being run, i dont see why it shouldnt carry on in that way, anyone using it will know its on the main board, and as they are listed as a mag daily it is not difficult to spot, and im sure anyone who has time and any other great ideas, im sure they could run a sub board too, if they so wished. The only 'rule' is that all competitions are posted on the main board.
So please, can people stop trying to bully others into their way of thinking. If standing up for the majority makes me a shouter, then so be it.
As a final note, i think someone else has mentioned this as well but i wanted to as well. The reason the main board is such hell at the moment is because of the advents, not because of the magazines. I have never seen it this busy - and believe the blame is with facebook and twitter as it seems the world and his wife is posting an advent on these at the moment! Yes, after Christmas it will go back to being lots of magazine competitions, but it gives every single person the chance to enter, if they choose and that is what the ethos of the Competition Time board is all about.0 -

Thank You for your lovely reply.
Yes sometimes things written are taken way out of context it's the same on any forum.
I agree that everything should be posted on the main comp board as well. It's only fair. It gives people the chance to enter them that may not have that chance because they don't know where the regular board is or don't have the time & if they come across each comp on the main comp board they they will at least be able to enter them once.
My only gripe with it was that it was done a few day's before the advents started. Instead of changing it then & re accesing it after xmas rush it should of been done the other way around with daily bumping of a thread stating where the daily mags were.
