Evening all!
So Mr Shortie went and did our last bits of shopping (we ran out of dog and cat food, whoops) plus the bits we needed for the 'curry cook up' on Saturday, and he got us in at 30p under budget :rotfl:. The money has been put into the 'grocery spares' butter tub (not really sure what's that's saving for!). Fingers crossed we won't need any sudden emergencies, lol
I'll declare on Sunday to be sure though xxApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Thanks for the support - I think it did maybe expect too much of myself with it being the first month - I am doing this cos im quite addicted to food shopping for some silly reason so I haven't done so bad considering!
Tuna is from ASDA - 3 tins for £2! It was on one of the aisle ends with big offer on it you couldn't really miss it! Worth stocking up while its cheap!!
Thanks for that - will try to get to A*da in the next week sometime. I don't go very often as it's 15 miles away but planning a shopping day early next week in that town so hopefully the offer will still be on then!

About the instant home made oat pots, it is from an Mse thread, I am not sure who started it but it is a great idea. I have a small mountain of dried fruit to use so I am taking them to be a filling, healthy lunch that will help me deplete the mountain a little
A little cinnamon is a great idea, thankyou :T£36/£240

Pie sounds interesting - do you have a recipe please ?
it's from Good Food magazine
greek lamb filo pie
1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion finely chopped
1 carrot diced
2 celery sticks diced
3 garlic cloves crushed
1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
1 tsp dried oregano
100ml white wine
500g lamb mince
150ml lamb stock (i used beef)
400g can chopped tomatoes
1 aubergine cut into 5mm slices (never used)
5-6 sheets filo pastry ( swapped for slice potato)
25g butter melted
1. heat a non-stick frying pan and add a dash of oil. fry the onion, carrot and celery for 5-6 mins until softened.add the garlic, rosemary, oregano and cook for a couple of more mins.pour in the wine and continue to cook until the liquid reduces by half. tip the mixture into a bowl and set aside.(also added 300g mushrooms at this stage)
2. add a dash more oil to the pan and fry the mince until browned. pour in the stock and stir.add the cooked vegetables and the tomatoes, season, then gently simmer for 15 mins.
3. heat a griddle pan, brush aubergine slices with oil and cook them for 1-2 mins on each side.if you want to cook straight away, heat the oven to 190/gas 5 ( never made aubergine so just skipped it)
4. layer the mince mixture and the aubergine slices in an ovenproof dish measuring 33x23cm. top with a sheet of filo, brush it with butter, then add a few more sheets, brushing them with butter each time and scrunching up the edges as u go.brush the top with butter and cook for 30-35 mins until golden and crisp on the top.(i replace filo with sliced potatoes boiled them for 5 mins in salted water.arranged them on the top and sprinkled with cheese.)
u can freeze th pie before baking. remove from the freezer and cook from frozen for 1h or until golden brown and piping hot in the middleJan GC £66,82/100 Jan NSD 17/31; Feb GC £71,67/100 Feb NSD 14/28;Mar GC £81,82/100 Mar NSD 16/31;Apr GC £99,54/100 Apr NSD 14/30; May GC £127,20/100 May NSD 12/31; June GC £70,05/100 June NSD 17/30; July GC £47,52/100 NSD 05/310 -

Have a NSD here today. Have just made a fritatta for lunch with leftover veg n sausages and some beans. Really enjoyed it. Just trying to convince my 3 yr old I am not trying to poison her. :-)
Feeling bit better about yesterday. Have loads of meals in freezer so going to spend afternoon planning menus to see how far they go.
Problem I have is I don't carry cash have always used my card but with the menu plans I will create a weekly shopping list and wont go to shops anymore than that. renewed determination!!
Why not carry cash, its easy enough to go to a cash point and take out the grocery budget, put it in a purse, pot whatever, use that for groceries, use the card for anything else.Slimming World at target0 -
Found a wee bargain in Mr T's last night, 6 Festive Bakewells you know the Mr K kind, £2.30 for a box or 2 for £2 :T There were other cakes in the offer at £1.80 a box but clearly they weren't as much of a bargain. Thought maybe the SEL was wrong, but checked my receipt and got £2.60 off!
So I bought only a couple of boxes, as if I'd bought more then that's just an excuse to eat more!!My name is CherryPie and I'm addicted to grocery shopping!!
