Maybe I am missing something, but I am curious as to why people dislike threads being bumped?

I think its because if the comps aren't in order you can accidentally dupe yourself.
I enter by end date though and use the green tick when i've entered.2012 wins = £933 :j
2013 wins so far = £4,025 :j
July wins: Holiday to Marbella :j0 -
I coudlnt care less as this is a 'FORUM' -
An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages..
If you want to say something about a comp or prize then DO SO.!
There are NO rules about bumping if there were then it cant be called an OPEN forum.
If you have something valuable to say just say (i have done in the past and will continue - and besides once ive done a comp i dont often return to that page so doesnt matter if people say dont bump_)
As for people saying it upsets the order - rubbish - I do all comps via date starting at (today 213 pages) working in reverse so even if you bump ALL THREADS are still there in EXACT DATE ORDER...Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
It can change the order if you start on page 1 and use the previous/next thread button as that works based on the most recent post not the thread start date (so your comping as posted not by end date/thread start date). So say i'm on a competition which is currently on page 15 and you happen to bump the thread whilst i'm on it it will then put me back to page 1 (not very good at explaining sorry) and until i realise I will then be working my way through all the comps that i've just been through. It's not so much of an issue now that there's the green/red cross but it used to get very confusing trying to figure out where you were if a thread was bumped. It all depends on how you comp as to how much it would effect you though. Hopefully someone can explain what I mean better than I can!2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960 -

There ya go thats the link i use every day and have done for months start at the end and work your way back.
(at the end of each days comping i simply bookmark where im at say page 175, and carry on then when you get to the beginning which will be last day of the month you go back to the end-it works for me ive won nearly £16000 worth of prizes in my short 12months )
It uses the dates in order and doesnt matter if a thread bumped as its showing comps by end dates.
(for anyone whos clicked that you will also see on certain dates comps that end next month etc so just skip that page and carry on with 02 ending)Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
Bumping threads is always appreciated if you have something useful to say. i.e. the end date has changed, or there's a new answer to a comp etc.
But if everyone bumped to say something like 'i'd love this prize', or 'thanks' then the board would be a mess and that's the sort of thing the Compers Chat area was invented for, and the thanks button says thanks anyway
Vanpopple if your way of comping works for you then that's grand, but everyone works differently .0 -
There are thousands of members on here, if we all bumped to say thank you or entered or something similar the boards would be a mess.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

Thank you for your replies. So far I have been comping by thread start time and using the green ticks, and have not been affected in anyway by bumped threads, which was why I was slightly baffled about the posts I had seen asking people not to bump. I understand now why it may be irritating if different comping organisation methods are used.
Thank you for the link vanpopple. I am going to take a look now£630/ £20140 -

Hi VanPopple.
I suppose this is a forum but not a discussion forum as such.If members want discussion it can be done on this section of MSE comps: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=215
Re rules on bumping I'd note the first post on here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/24817
8. No Bumping Of Posts. Please do not just bump posts for the sake of it. This disrupts the boards.
I think most members use the Standard View of the board & bumping disrupts the order of posts plus we can end up with a situation where important info is missed because of a blizzard of pointless bumps.
We'd end up looking like some of the comps on Heart radio with superfluous posts on why the win would be nice etc :-)0 -
Cases when bumping has consequences:-
1) Many people who post comps regularly search the threads they have started and will look at any that have been bumped, looking for things such as changed end dates, new links, disputed answers, restrictions on entry etc. It wastes time if the bump is for something not really relevant to the running of the competition.
2) Some people subscribe to threads, particularly daily/weekly comps that require new answers each time (also T-A-B and Puzzler threads) so every time such a thread is bumped an email is sent to hundreds of MSE compers, and again much time can be wasted if the bump is irrelevant.
I am pretty sure that one prolific poster subscribes to virtually every thread they start so they are notified when someone bumps it with important information.0 -
It doesn't bother me now we have the red cross but if you use the forum in the simplest way you will work from the first page back to the last one you marked. Instead of pages full of unseen comps there will be "bumped" ones mixed in with them, sometime most of a page, given that many "bumps" are pointless they are just a waste of time.0
