I use a PC, A DAB Radio, One energy saving light bulb, Load the washer once a month(Try to use the tumble dryer sparingly)Fridge/freezer...Eat less(mainly cold meals)now do hot meals in the slow cooker, combi microwave, halogen oven and on a small George Forman Grill.
Avoid baths(don't have a shower)most days just a quick sponge down(may start to have a couple of baths whilst I can afford them each week)once I see what I spend on gas and electric.
I use the gas mainly to heat water, try not to run it off and therefore I put the boiler on less to reheat what's in the tank and so it's not stone cold...and the water can stay very hot for a couple of days between using the boiler.
To avoid the CH I dive under the duvet or try to wear warm clothes, blankets, gloves and hats...so even if the house gets cold, hopefully I am reasonably warm.
I hope to manage paying no more than £100 per month(less if possible)My neighbour is paying £350 per month and these houses are smaller, more modern and have 3 bedrooms(semi detached)so I don't know what they are spending their money on?"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I too am in a 3 bed semi. I don't use an immersion, tumble dryer etc. gas for heating and cooking. Heat is on thermostat and is turned off at night. Heating has been off most of the summer. I still pay £125 per month with scottish power!Baby Numner 4 due 7th May 2016

Well my house is mainly electric and guess what the price per unit of electric is more costly than gas!!! It would be. Suppose it depends on wattage of the gadgets being used whether the bill is high or low...It would appear if you use a electric to heat up things like water, food etc...that costs...if you are watching a tv, using a pc or running a normal fridge freezer it will be less...I hope so...
Is that £125 for gas alone or both. See I may be able to save on the gas but find my electric is high, in your case the electric may be less and the gas costs more...
I have had some people tell me their bills are £65 a month but I don't know how much they are using or not using as the case may be...
Isn't it awful that in this day and age many are living as though we have stepped back 50 years and have heating and gadgets many of us cannot afford to run and they say how modern the UK is..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

The vast majority of your power bills are for space heating and hot water. These are the things to concentrate on, then big consumption white goods items such as tumble driers.
Light bulbs, PC's, hair curlers etc are not significant.
Electric heating on standard rate is about 3 times more per kWh than gas.
Yes, the rated wattage is exactly what determines the cost of running an item. However, you must also consider the time it's run for. Your kettle uses more power than just about any other electrical item in the house, apart from perhaps your immersion heater or electric shower, but it's only ever on for a few minutes at a time.
What you or other people pay per month by DD is not really relevant-what matters is your annual kWh consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

It's the standing charges I hate...I reckon I am or will be paying 77p a day before I use anything. Gas SC 42.840p/Electric 31.915p
The electric unit price is 10.143p and the gas unit price is 3.327p
I questioned again today if this is the best tariff for me and they still say yes and it is a fixed rate...so £274.45 annually is just in standing charges but if they do give me £100 back annually you could say that is only £174.45 so it's a bit like getting some of the SC back...and bringing it back to approx 40p a day instead of 77p
Its all so complicated...I'll probably only save money by cutting down what I use...I'd love to see a bill similar to what Stompa and On My Own are paying..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

we both have hot showers daily too....
Care to swap my 5?We all shower for around 4 minutes a day, the kids play hi-fi music whilst on the computer with the television on, in different rooms, not to add all the extra washing, cooking etc
I will be rich when they go to uni, even with the 9k a year fees :rotfl:Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -

I repeat, standing charges are a red herring for all but the lowest users. A comp site will demonstrate this to you in seconds if you calculate a tariff using SC and non-SC versions-the costs will be just a few pence different.
What matters is not unit kWh costs (irrelevant), but what you will pay annually after all other discounts and incentives are take into account (which is what the comp sites will calculate for you).No free lunch, and no free laptop0
