Nappy leaking!

Hi just wondered if anyone has any nappy recommendations. My son is 13 months and nearly every morning for the last 3 weeks his nappy has leaked (just wet). We have tried size 4, 4+ and 5 in pampers baby dry and 4+ in pampers active, 4+ in huggies and 4+ in Boots own. (Boots were the worst). They always seem to leak out the top towards the side. We have tried making sure they are a snug fit and slightly higher at the front, but nothing seems to help.
I think some of the problem may be that he is solid built baby (about 12kg) with reasonable sized legs, at night time his tummy is bloated and obviously by the morning it is flatter so the nappy is looser. His nappy always weighs a ton by the morning.

Feel like all I am doing is trialling nappies at the moment and washing and drying his sleeping bags!

Are you sure you're fitting them properly, and pointing him downwards? You should check the seal around his legs. I always found Pampers Baby Dry to be excellent, and I'm surprised you're having problems with a 13 month old...

You could feel his nappy before you go to bed and rechange him then. Keep the light off and just do it from under the bottom of the covers.

I dont have a solution, but I can sympathise as my son is nearly 4 and we have tried EVEYTHING. The only things that helped us get more dry nights than wet were

    Pampers babydry
Go one size larger than daytime nappies
Change nappy when you go to bed (we are STILL doing this)

We're a bit stuck now as he's outgrown the size 6 nappies, but is too skinny for the big boy pyjama pants, so we're back to endless washing again!

    Good luck :)
  • I found the Sainsbury's Dry nappies the best of all of them. Check the cuffs around his legs, do you have the rumbled edge outside of the elastic around his leg?

Make him sleep in the bath.

This is a nice insight for you ready for potty training. Except my three year old was not in a sleeping bag...

How about putting normal pants on top of his nappy to make it snugger?

onlyroz and AnnaLicious - they are definately being fitted properly, my husband moans about how particular I am about putting the nappy on, I won't give up until I am happy it is on right.

We have thought about changing him when we go to bed, but to be honest I don't think it will help. He seems to just fill it in the early hours of the morning. He woke early a few mornings last week (4.30!) and the nappy was hardly wet.

ZsaZsa- you haven't made me very hopeful, I was hoping the perfect nappy was out there.

Agutka - I like your thinking about the bath!

More nappies to try I think.
  • We used cloth nappies during the day but drifted towards a paper one overnight once they were sleeping through. When they got to the stage you're at now I used to put one of our wraps over the top, something like THIS for example. (Cute, huh?!) It can be wiped over and hung up to air during the day, wouldn't need washing every day and may just save you a load of washing bills...
You could put out a wanted on freecycle/ freegle too, or see if a friend could lend you a wrap to try before you buy.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
  • is he drinking alot of liquid before bed? maybe limit it after 6pm. this will help to get him dry at night time once you start potty training. if he is going dry till after half 4 in the morning then potty training doesnt seem far off as he has the ability to hold it for a considerable length of time!

Is your son quite active? If so I totally recommend Tesco's Super Fit. They were the only nappy I could safely say held all of its contents in one place. They were actually the top rated nappy when I had my DD back in 2005 and better than the leading brand which was pampers.

Give them a try; and they are cheaper too so MSE!
