Our son's 18 in August and we are looking for insurance for him on a 1 or 1.2 litre town car, nothing flash.
Which insurance company have you chosen?
Best Deals?
Getting some silly quotes. Are there any new car deals with insurance in for new drivers?
Some recent quotes in this video of mine

Suggest you have a read through the young driver threads on here - the topic comes up almost daily. Get onto Parkers to find out which vehicles are low group - something seriously uncool will be cheapest to insure - however the deciding factor will usually be your postcode so if insurers deem that high risk there will not be a huge amount you can do to get prices down. In a low risk area with a low group car, parents added to get price down etc - expect to pay minimum of c£2k+. Car value has little to do with the quote - the issue for insurers is the damage that the newly qualified driver will do to an unfortunate third party - which going by recent awards can run into several £m.0

play around on an online comparison site and try different vehicles, adding a parent as a named driver, higher excess etc. As already said above, some cars are seen as more uncool than others so it may be possible to get cheaper insurance on say an old 1.6 litre rover than a 1.0 litre corsa.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Still Looking as the prices we are seeing is stupid
Have a Polo S (64) on an 05 plate0 -
Make the voluntary excess the highest possible.
Add 2 additional drivers who are his parents or something, preferably women.
I find Elephant/swift cover are the cheapest. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have you looked at the tracker companies (ikube, insure the box, coverbox etc.).
He would have to be aware that his driving will be monitored and there may be restrictions e.g. the early hours of the morning, but for some people this works.0 -

Admiral Multiquote are quoting £2988 for 3 cars with him as main driver on his car with parents as named driversHave you looked at the tracker companies (ikube, insure the box, coverbox etc.).

That's probably the lowest you'll find unfortunately
Just played with names on the quote and changed son to daughter and it comes in with a price of £899.92. Phoned Admiral to ask why they discriminate between male & female as I beleive this is against UK law.
Up shot is the adviser did tell me that male & female driving insurance is to be 're-aligend' in December this year with a male's insurance dropping and the females going up. So looks like I'll wait until December 2012 for this to happen to save a good sum of money I hope.0 -
My son is 18 today and has insured his 1.0l polo with Tesco (Tesco Bank not Tesco Compare) cost him £1900 which is expensive but half of what anyone else quoted him!xxx Nikki xxx0
