Not doing too badly this month, think may go over budget slightly, but not too badly. I went to Mr. A yesterday to get a few bits, and I picked up toothpaste which we always use, which was on offer £3 down to £1, so I picked up 4 boxes. When I checked my receipt they had charged me full price (my head was spinning £12 for toothpaste - shocking), so I went to customer services and got a refund, and they gave me the £2 gift card as a sorry, so I was chuffed with that. Today I went on to the price guarantee site, and they gave me a voucher for £3.60, I've never done this before, but I was wandering if it would be accepted, because it was only because of the toothpaste that Mr. S was 12p cheaper than Mr. A, and the receipt has been marked as having a refund?2025 G/C Jan £264.82, Feb £249.68. Lisakay - the asian supermarket sounds fab - where in manchester is it? Might be worth a visit for me if its the right side of town

Did a freezer audit yesterday and am now not going to the butchers/mission to use some stuff up.
First up was kipper pate - 300g kippers, 150g soft cheese, lemon juice, 1 tsp horseradish blended, and then pulsed with a bit of double cream and pepper. I am now converted, which is great as I am not a fish fan at all.
Also made a lentil and potato curry here to use up half a bag of nearly OOD green lentils for lunch - strange colour, great taste . So much so that no one wants the nice roast beef I found at the bottom of the freezer, or the nice goose fat (back of the fridge dregs) roasted pots. Half the curry is in the freezer for another day.
Also soaked and cooked chickpeas, and was convinced by DH to try baking some (couple of spoons of olive oil, seasoning of your choice, 40 min on a baking tray in a fairly hot oven, shake regularly) which got eaten in 5 minutes flat. Second batch have garlic powder, onion powder and chilli - yum.
The other discovery of the weekend was a recipe involving baked tomatoes - 250g halved cherry toms, olive oil and 25g grated parmesan, baked for 20 minutes. Superb, never used toms as a main veg before.
The new lower budget means we have a lot less meat and I am trying to do more with less. Very much looking forward to River Cottage veg tonight for inspiration. Also re-reading Paupers Cookbook and Frugal Food!
