Bought Tesco Gift Card on Ebay - Please help

Hi all
In a moment of weakness I bought £100 of tesco gift card hoping to save a few pounds.
Its been a week and no sight of the card.
I tried to contact the seller using the numbers stored on ebay but the number is not valid which made me think the seller is a fraud.
I paid for the item using paypal foolishly thinking I am protected only to find that both ebay and paypal does not protect buyers buying gift cards from their website!
I called up tesco credit card (the card that was used) and they said
I can open a dispute but should wait for a few weeks or so.
I am gutted and cannot afford to loose £94.
I cant believe that ebay lets such things happen and are just happy collecting their fees and wash their hands when there is an issue.
My question is where do I stand and what chances are that I get my money back via my credit card.
I know i cant use section 77 in this case but surely this is a fraudulent transaction and the buyer has to be protected.
I work for a bank myself and know the emphasis that is placed on consumer protection etc but wanted to gather peoples thoughts and experience and whether anyone has been sucessful in getting their money back in such a situation

You will not get any help from Ebay or Paypal, as you have found out.
Your best bet is with your card provider, although most relinquish responsibility as using Paypal is a third party transaction.
The transaction may or may not be fraudulent. Have you tried pulling the sellers tel number and giving them a ring?0 -
Yes I did pull the tel numbers from ebay but the number the seller has on his account is invalid!:mad:0

Well, if you are really lucky you may get some help. Ebay take a very dim view of sellers/buyers details being incorrect.
Telephone Ebay (not live chat) and hope you get Dublin (pot luck). Explain you have been trying to call the number they gave you for the seller.....stress it is invalid and your item hasn't arrived. They MAY act and it MAY result in you getting your money back, but it is a loooooooong shot.0 -
thanks for that - i think i will have to fight it out hard with both ebay and tesco credit card.
also find it hard to beleive that you cant get your money if the merchant is paypal .
let me try and keep everyone posted.0 -
Good luck. I would try the 'desperate' act with Ebay rather than the 'fight' stance.0
-
correct - in the worst case scenario i would say the transaction was unauthorised and say i never agreed to pay that amount.
someone then would have to give my money back.
with these things i think one has to be persistent else they loose - i am going to persist with this one!0 -
Im curious about what was the seller's feedback record like? Perhaps he is a slow poster? What does his feedback read like?Love, through the trees, past the sky, beyond the northern lights; and I won't let go. May your soul and spirt fly sweetheart x
My alphabet-girls are with me every step of the way x0 -
I wonder if it was the same seller as the one posted about the other day, thread here

You work for a bank yet you are considering committing fraud?in the worst case scenario i would say the transaction was unauthorised and say i never agreed to pay that amount.

the seller has a score of 140 feedbacks and also had a history of selling of 6 such tesco cards which gave me confidence to buy off him.
but i could not see the history as they were listed as private.0
