You're absolutely right. I don't understand what you guys want at all.
I looked at what several people were asking me, tried to get my head round it and obviously utterly failed because they were all asking me different things.
The point is, when this originally all "blew up" you contacted me saying please give us strict guidelines from MSE that we can follow, despite me wanting you guys to sort it out for yourselves as it's you that know best what you all want.
From the last few posts it really sounds like you're all very much capable of sorting it between yourselves so please, do whatever you all need to do to sort it amongst yourselves, then ask a BG to pop it as a sticky at the top of the board and unstick mine because bringing me into the equation has obviously just confused things completely all round.
The aim, at the end of the day, is for you guys to establish the best way of comping for yourselves and in a way that will minimise anything any forum user "has" to do, whether it's someone updating stickies or a BG "having" to move threads.
So, I really think it's best I bow out of this gracefully (hopefully).
But as I've said several times, everyone, please keep it friendly, and try to work it out calmly. Jumping at perceived "digs" at each other doesn't help anyone.
Andrea
thank you, does this mean we can keep the puzzler/ tab monthly comps on one thread please

PS, I apologise if that post or any of my PMs to anyone sound harsh. It's been a long day.
My other half is Japanese and my mum's on a ship off the coast of South America - double whammy! Thankfully his family are fine and my mum appears to be on the side of the continent that wouldn't be affected by the tsunami.Could you do with a Money Makeover?

thank you, the comps for them particular mags have always been posted on one thread, the ops pay/subscribe to the mags to share for us all & keep the issues flowing each month & have had loads of pm's from ops who post the comps on them threads worrying that they'll have to be posted separate, makes a lot more sense to keep them as they are,
thanks for clarifying this :Aplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

It has been a terrible day, and I really appreciate you coming back to us with all that has happened today. Thank heavens your family are safe. I felt completely helpless watching the news today, my heart goes out to all the people affected.
Your pm was fine to me, thank you for trying to help us, and of course I am willing to try my best to help. I think it may be because us compers go into the nitty gritty of the t&cs for so many comps, that we may have come across as nit picking your guidelines, without intending too.korkythekat wrote: »thank you, the comps for them particular mags have always been posted on one thread, the ops pay/subscribe to the mags to share for us all & keep the issues flowing each month & have had loads of pm's from ops who post the comps on them threads worrying that they'll have to be posted separate, makes a lot more sense to keep them as they are,
thanks for clarifying this :A
Korky, that makes complete sense to me too. Is it only the puzzler/tab that are on one thread please? As I'll add that to the possible guidelines above.
Am I right in thinking that all the mags have reg posters, as someone is paying buy them. Plus the ITV comps are normally posted by comping cat?
===================================================
I am out most of tomorrow but will try and pop on if possible, so hopefully lets try and work together to work guidelines out, without arguing. I tried my hardest to gather the unwritten comping rules we abide by in my post above, along with the changes that people seemed to want in respect to the posting of Reg comps. I
The main things that are jumping out at me are
1) Do we to continue to post ongoing comps with no end date in the Regs board ?
2) What do people think of the options for Monthly comps that are regular? (see point 4 in guidelines)
3) Should we expand the Stickys on the Reg board, so that we could get one for FB, Twitter in there?
4) Would people like to be able to post misc chat and question threads in there as well? We could change it into a Compers Cosy Corner - a place for all chat, questions, ongoing comps and helpful Sticky threads to live, instead of or as well as the huge Comps Discussion thread and the Compers Inn? We have some of the most helpful and caring people on MSE on our comps board, and yet we have no place where we can communicate as compers except for 2 long threads.
Why do I want to keep the extra sub forum at all??? Because I feel it may be easier to add/share information on there, esp with all the new twitter, Fb, etc comps that are popping up, than continually bumping threads on main. We could just have general and varied comps gossip threads in. We could then ask questions and hold any chit chat when theres a good comp running on various threads in there, debates, help how do I do type threads, etc....
???? What have I missed? Any other title tags???My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

1) It has always been a rule that all comps posted on the main board must have an end date so any "ongoing" regs without a specific end date should go on the Regs board.
2) As stated previously, I think all regular monthly comps should be posted as as individual comp threads on the main board.
3) I would certainly like Facebook/Twitter comps to have their own place somewhere
4) Wouldn't this need to be a new sub-board so that it could hold multiple threads? If not it would either get confused among the Reg comp posts or just end up being a long thread like the Inn or Discussions. Most (repeated) questions are asked by newbies, if this was in the Regs area, would the Newbies find it rather than post on the main board, the Inn or Discussions? Not sure about this.
Well that's my opinion but I'm sure I will manage whatever way it goes.0 -
Hello,
I'm sorry if this is a little 'off topic' but could you advise me on whether it is worth entering all the daily Now, Look, Pick Me Ups, What's on tv, etc comps on the Dailies board?
Does anyone actually win them and what are the odds of winning? They just take a while to enter after ticking all the 'No'/'Not Interested' boxes.
I just don't want to be wasting my time...I enter most of the comps on the main board.
Thanks x

Just a quickie from me before kids swim club- sorry thingamabob.
point 1 - someone sugested using annual guessedenddate for onboing comps
point 4 - if there were very few comps on Regs, the board would be even quieter than it is now - I meant as possibly place for extra sticky collating the actual fb, twitter comps to live - as people made it very clear that they wanted as many comps as possible on the main board. My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Glad, I'm sorry, but I don't think your original compromise would work now. I like the regs board, but I get the very strong feeling that most compers want as much as possible on main board.
Well before we totally dismiss ongoing regulars living on regulars and anything with an end date going on main can we run a poll.
Maybe just do you think ongoing regulars with no end date should go on the regulars board or the main board?
Vote options of Regulars OR Main
(maybe provide an example so people know what you're talking about)
Doesn't have to be an MSE poll if they can only be done by the likes of Andreas I'm sure there must be free ones on external sites?
Like Glad said, representation on here may be disproportional because you're more likely to moan than say all's well so I think we should use polls to decide so everyones opinion gets counted otherwise we'll end up back here in another month or two with other people moaning that how they comp has been ignored when the rules have been written.
(sorry for bolding that bit but I wanted it to be highly visible because this post may be too long for most. And I know we had polls before but they weren't well though through and were closed early)My personal preference is for reg comps which are dailys and weeklys to have a thread for each comp which lasts for the life of the comp. The reason I suggested that common sense may be a better way to go in regard to the monthlys, was that I can understand a single thread for a monthly which has the same prize repeating every month, but when its a different prize each month, then it feels like a different comp to me, even if the website uses the same url to host the comp. I would hate to lose the stickys linking us to d/w/m comps, as they are very useful. And with the extra info starting to get collated onto the dailys thread - Fb comps, purchase required comps, etc that is a fantastic aid to comping
OK well I understand that.
I think another poll. Maybe one where you can click more than one option?
Question could be: "What is a regular?" and possible answers could be similar to the original poll (but without the duplication and with one that says "only comps with the same url and same prize each d/w/m". I've probably a few other options to tidy up the original questions but I'm going out so will give them tomorrow.
Maybe make it clear that any future rules will be based on both majority and best fit from the poll. Or that if a few results are equally popular and totally different a second poll may be needed with just the popular answers.
I would like clear rules to avoid all the hassle. I'm not the only one who thinks the one I posted that caused upset this week was a regular!
If the poll is set up well enough we should be able to get clear rules out of it. If not then people need to be more relaxed about it when they disagree with how a comp is posted!
I get that you'll never catch EVERY comp in any set of rules. But we should be able to catch MOST
I also think there should be one more poll based on how we post what and if ongoing threads are acceptable to people.
[STRIKE]Based on the amilucky post perhaps?
eg
2a, 3a, 4a
2a, 3a, 4b
2a, 3b, 4b
etc. including every combo.
Again maybe a multiple choice poll.
People need to be made aware that if an option where it isn't clear is most favoured (eg it has 3a, 3b and/or 4a, 4b in it) then they need to bite their tongue when they disagree with how a comp is posted!
And maybe give a few examples of how ongoing comps can work well for everyone (eg the TaB and Puzzler ones)[/STRIKE]
EDIT: I actually think 3 polls may be clearer than one here and give results that are easier to use 1st time
1) how should dailies be posted? Vote options of: One thread to be updated as and when OR one post each day?
2) and 3) how should weeklies and then how should monthlies be posted (options as above).
May be simpler to understand that way?
So to summarise
I'm suggesting [STRIKE]3[/STRIKE] 5 polls
1) Where should ongoing regulars get posted
2) What is a regular
3) How do we post [STRIKE]regulars[/STRIKE] dailies
4) How do we post weeklies
5) How do we post monthlies
I know that may be a lot but then everything really is based on majority opinion rather than guessed opinion
I think they should be fully thought through (maybe put the Q's on here for proof reading before they go live) and run for at least a week.
And then I think results should be embedded in any rules so we can just refer people back to them if/when they query,0 -

I can't believe I didn't see that, I was fiddling with the ascending descending boxes at the bottom :rotfl:Thanks Bob :coffee:0
