Just out of interest, how do you all keep track of which comps you've entered?

Do you just have a simple Excel spreadsheet, or is there something more complex than this? Maybe you don't even keep a record at all?

Please enlighten me - I'm intrigued, especially as I'm forever thinking to myself "Now, have I already entered this one, or not?"

    Cheers,

    Loz
There are thanks buttons and enter buttons at the bottom of the competitions - I just use them.

    Hiya everyone :hello:

I'm in a bit of a moralistic dilemma and don't know quite what to do,

my wife has dementia which is getting progressively worse earlier this week I made the heartbreaking decision to take her to her GP for an official diagnosis of her condition as I was very concerned as a couple of weeks ago she had a fall and was hospitalised overnight since then she has lost her appetite and has resorted to sleeping for vast amounts of the day (hence my doing competitions again my hearts really not in it but it helps to take my mind of things)

she has had dementia for about 18 months now I did not seek advice earlier as I wanted to preserve her dignity and also I fear that I was in denial and refused to believe the true circumstances of her illness

I have been looking at the various forms of dementia and it appears that she may have vascular dementia as her symptoms tick all of the boxes

this is one of the most progressive forms of dementia which is caused by restriction of the blood vessels to the brain and for which there is no cure and the prognosis is a life expectancy of between 5-6 years

my dilemma is this we have a 13 years old bearded collie called Tina which we have had since she was 6 months old

we are now living in a flat in sheltered accommodation and we are unable to leave her on her own for any length of time

the last two times that we have left her she has ripped the carpet up in front of the door and we have struggled to get in to the flat

on the last occasion not only did she rip the carpet but she also cut all of her paws on the sharp carpet strips underneath the carpet and there was blood everywhere

my stepson has said that that the dog is affecting his mothers quality of life (which I agree) as we are not able to go out and has offered to take Tina to the vets for euthanasia

he has said that if we agree that he and his wife will take Tina to the vets and that afterwards the family will the be able to to be more pro-active in his mothers life and be able to take her out more

    now the dilemma,

my wife absolutely adores Tina but will soon forget, I myself also adore Tina but I am very moralistic and I fear that I would not be able to forgive myself if I agreed to have her put down but I just want the best for my wife and want to give her the best quality of life in what might be a limited amount of time

as I am writing this Tina is looking at me with her beautiful big brown eyes and is wagging her tail and I am looking at her with tears streaming down my eyes

I am very sorry to burden you with such a dilemma but what should I do?

    my heart is torn :(
  • Amilucky my heart goes out to you, my nan suffered with dementia and my grandad bless him didnt let on to anyone, he hid it so well from us all, were a very close family, i used to see my grandparents every couple of days, only when my grandad had a stroke and ended up in hospital did we realise how poorly my nan was, its a heartbreaking condition and i wish you all the best, sorry i cant offer you any support but it is good to talk,

if i was you i wouldnt have to dog put to sleep, shes 13 and as we know dogs dont live for ever, think of all the happy times you had with Tina cant anyone look after Tina while your out with your wife?

Amilucky - My heart is broken for you - I realised that your wife had dementia from some of your postings (the wandering ones being the most obvious). Please contact your local health board/social work ASAP to get as much help in place as soon as possible. Living with someone with dementia is a great strain as they tend to get up at the middle of the night & leave the house a lot & you need to be able to have some rest yourself so that you can provide as much support for your lovely wife as possible.
You will have some sort of local support group who will be able to 'foster' your dog. This may be just someone taking her for walks or taking her overnight a few times a week to give you some space. She will prove invaluable companionship to you in the difficult times ahead so try to keep her with you if possible. If you need help tracking down local help for your dog PM me with your area & I will do the phoning/contacting for you & pass you on the details

    thanks for your feedback,

I am very sorry to here about your granddad and grandma how very dignified and commendable of him to hide your nan's dementia

all of our family are working during the day and our next door neighbour doesn't like dogs and is frightened of them :(
