    What's an Ajax call?

Thanks for getting involved in trying to sort this out Ian. Not what you had planned for a Friday night eh?

Would it help if you log in as me and test it? Let me know if you need me to log out and I'll PM you my password.

There are some other thanks problems.

Whole pages of my thanks have been disappearing over the last few days, other times just one out of the page goes.

Last couple of nights, the first thanks on a page freezes the machine for a couple of minutes, then it gets going again.

For quite a few days Penny and I have had a weird page come up on random thanks. We click over 'thanks' and a huge page, more or less top to bottom of screen appears. It's in portrait, not landscape, and is full of gobbledegook text.
After it has appeared my machine runs really slowly.

    Jansus' thanks aren't working either.

I'll thank this thread but can't guarantee they'll stay!

I think I know where my own problem lies - and am trying to recall where I saw the instructions about how I can change my MSE page format - which I think might solve it.

When the MSE Forum changed the default setting a few weeks back now as to the way we view the Forum pages I decided I preferred the "old look". I spotted the instructions as to how we could change the default setting to swop back to the old look and did that.

Only darn trouble is that I cant recall where I saw those instructions - so that I can put the process in reverse and revert to the new MSE Forum default setting.......

Anyways - I've sent a PM to MSE telling them that this is what I think my own problem might be and suggesting that they should look into whether that is the cause of it for other people too.

I think some MSE bod has made an amendment to the look of the MSE forum pages and overlooked the tiny step about making sure we can still hit the thanks button.???????

(I'm looking at this on white pages - the new default ones are green if I recall aright). Yep - just checked - ie the default setting look has green borders/green on the left side. Now I'm logged back in (on my old page appearance again) its white all the way round.

I just switched back to the "old look" forum style to test, and now have the same problem with the thanks button.

So is everyone with a problem still using the "old look" forums?

Now back on the "New Look", and the thanks button works again.

That's got it sorted fermi, you're a star! Not too keen on all this green but I suppose if I want to keep thanking I'll have to get used to it.

I didn't like it at first, but you soon get used to it. ;)

In fact, when I go back to the old version now, it looks awful to my eyes.

I know it's not a priority for the MSE team, but hopefully fixing the old style to get the thanks working again will be fairly simple for them if they can spare the time?

    YAY!

    ...and I'm a computer ignoramus......:D

Well - at least it looks like MSE now know what the problem is.

So - THANKS - Fermi for telling me how to swop back to new MSE look.

Don't know if it's because I'm on a netbook with a tiny screen but the top is very muddly. The link to "abuse" is almost superimposed over the New Posts tab.

But I can live with that, thank goodness the main problem is sorted.

Maybe they are trying to wean everyone off the old look so that they don't have to maintain it any longer.
