silly question, do house sales always complete on a Friday?

I completed on a Monday. While some other posters have said it's nice to have the weekend afterwards to unpack if you complete on a Friday, I found having the weekend before to do the packing was an absolute godsend!0

I've always completed on Thursdays - and was blissfully unaware of the popularity of Fridays!0

I personally have always avoided Fridays. You do run the risk (if in a chain) of not everyone's money coming down the chain and not actually being able to complete (happened to my sister in law) - she had to wait the whole weekend with all her worldly posessions in a lorry taken to storage - and then finally got to move on the Monday.
Threre is no financial benefit of moving on another day -so all the removal companies we have had quotes from say.
I got caught out with something similar & although it worked out for me it had the potential to go horribly wrong.
I was in a chain of 4, all moving within a 30 mile radius. Unfortunately the idiot at the bottom didn't get his funds released in time, so the "money" only went to the next couple in the chain who were my buyers. They had already been given the keys by my EA & had moved most of their stuff into my house when, a few hours later my solicitor rang to say the EA had been premature as the couple hadn't actually paid for my house at the time!
By this time it was just past 4pm on the friday afternoon & the couple's solicitor wasn't prepared to stay behind & draw up documents for a "move under licence" (whatever that is). So they were moved into "my" house, while they were technically rich but homeless & I was left with a van full of stuff & no new home to put it all in! What could I do?
The couple were in tears, so I made the bold/stupid decision to trust them & they moved the rest of their stuff in & treated my home as theirs. They also had to look after my cat (who was p'd off as they bought a dog with them). My stuff stayed on the removals van & I & my daughter stayed with friends & had to go & buy new underwear to keep us going!
The couple whose house I was buying had planned to move their stuff into their empty new house & were then going away on holiday that evening. They weren't given the keys (as I wasn't to their house) as the "money" hadn't transferred, so they decided to leave their stuff on the van & go on holiday anyway - except their suitcases had been packed onto the van first, so they could be last off... Lots of unloading & reloading onto a different van!
Luckily the chain was completed the following Monday & all was well. The idiot at the bottom hadn't released his funds in time as he didn't want to lose the interest on his money. By the time he'd paid for everyones additional storage/removal costs he must have been very out of pocket
I do wonder what would have happened if there had been a problem with the money though & as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Blimey it all sounds like a nightmare. Luckily with only our house to sell, in order to release funds to get keys for our new one, it shouldn't be as bad as yours (hopefully anyway!).0 -
This is an easy one, you can complete on any working day ie Monday to Friday. Solicitors like it to be a Friday, the problem with this is if there is a delay with the funds you are stuffed till Monday and not all solicitors work weekends.
It is for this reason I always complete Monday to Thursday, that way if there is a problem you can camp in the solicitors office till he sorts it out.0 -
