Getting rid of private plates...
Options
I'm under the impression that you can give a private plate back to the DVLA and return the car to it's original age related registration for a very little fee (ie not putting the plate on retention)
Is this correct? In my quest for a banger I'm coming across some with pretty naff NI plates which I'd probably want shot of. Not that fussed, but I seem to remember reading this somewhere.
Can't really find much information about it on Directgov, etc....

Hi, not as far as I am aware. It would be £105 to get it on retention.
I did this to a banger I bought, and managed to get shot of the plate for £200 on t'ebay !
Some taxi firm bought it, wanting to hide the age of their minibuses!0 -

Yeah it sucks - I'll probably not bother if there's no way of getting rid and I do buy a car with one on, it's not that big a deal really.0

Think you can tax it at a LVLO and get the number removed and phave the car on a normal number?0

Well if you believe your plate has been cloned
You can apply to the DVLA to have a replacement-not sure if this is relevant for vehicles orignially registered in Northern Ireland though?0 -
