That's lovely nodwah. We have a wooden worktop (butchers block effect I think it's called) in our holiday flat, and I do like it now I've got used to it. Actually marble and granite are so common nowadays that I think wood is more individual!

Hi, ours is the butchers block type in beech . It has darkened with use and oiling so it's away from the colour of the doors now.
I do like it a bit but I'm so scared to put anything down on it in case it marks- it hopeless!
ps we live in the burbs of Glasgow but right on the edge of farmland - won't be for long tho' developers in "our" field :grr:Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I have ours covered in those glass surface protector/chopping board things, everywhere I might put something down! Of course this means that there isn't much of the worktop on show, but at least it isn't getting damaged. I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Good grief, there are some seriously stylish kitchens here! My kitchen is new a few years ago , i may post up pics later (but I didn't cook so much when I did design/pick it, so I wonder how different it would be now!)A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men :cool:

I often put hot pans on my wooden worktop and it's never marked it. The only problem I find with mine, is that the area around the sink gets mouldy even though I'm careful to wipe the water off it straight away. But every now and then, I give it a sanding down and re-oil it.0 -

Am on my third kitchen now since this thread started, am just planning my new kitchen, am having a hand built kitchen, with a range cooker (everhot) sooooooooo excited!Pawpurrs x

Off topic, but Pawpurrs - is that the electric range cooker? I would be keen to know how you get on with it if it is, as I was looking into one of those and they seemed quite goodWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
