Flight changed to airport in different country.... expedia.com.au

Hi guys,

I booked a bargain £200 flight from Heathrow to Vegas a few weeks back when it was on HUKD with Expedia.com.au

Have had an e-mail this morning to say that the Los Angeles to LHR flight has been cancelled and they have moved me onto a flight that goes Los Angeles to Paris....

How the heck can they change me from a flight to London to a flight to Paris... bit of a difference there.

Anyone know what my options are?

Can I make them change me back onto a London flight?

Can I make them also get me a Paris to London flight if I do have to change?

Will I have to cancel the flights altogether?

Cheers

They should get you to your original destination if they've given you a flight to a different country!

Mind you, in the eyes of someone in Australia, Paris is just round the corner from Heathrow...

There may well be different rules in play as you carried out your transaction in Australia and not the UK.

I had 3 seats booked on this flight (AF61) for next May & have had the same email. I have spoken to Expedia & they are dealing with several hundred clients booked on the same flights. They are at the moment waiting for details from Air France & they will email me when they have the details within 2 weeks(They are dealing with them on a departure date basis).
This problem has arisen as Air France has cancelled the direct daily flight from LHR-LAX from October 26th (although they are starting JFK direct from March 29th).
I should imagine we will all be booked through on connecting flights from Paris but will wait & see what transpires.

AF has flights from Paris CDG to regional airports in the uk so if BHX is more convenient than LHR perhaps persuade them to change to LAX-CDG-BHX.

According to a posting over on the Dibb http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=249099 Air France will not move you onto a NWA flight so it looks like a Via Paris to original booked airport.

Yes it is called the www.skyteam.com alliance and they are doing a good number of codeshares, your flight may have a NWA flight number, but it may be operated by an Air France aircraft.

Not sure if they could be persuaded to give a free stopover in NYC for those that want to do LAX-NYC-LHR instead of LAX-LHR.

From past experience of re-routes on cancelled flights, if you are booked on an AF code, you will be stuck with either flying via CDG, or getting a refund. If on a Northwestern codeshare with tickets issued on NWA stock, then you would have more chance of a re-route other than via CDG.

Getting a stopover in NYC (or anywhere else for that matter) won't be accepted unless the original ticket conditions allowed for this. Also as the tickets were bought via Expedia Australia, the negotiating of a re-route or a change would be through them. Usually Expedia work to the path of least resistance, i.e. whatever the airline in question says. You may have to work at them a few times to get a re-route or a stopover if you are entitled to one.

    Knackers.

I'm supposed to be on this AF61 back from LA on 4th December.

I won't object if they offer a stopover in NY, but it's going to be a pain in the backside and another 3 or 4 hours minimum i'd have thought to get a flight from Paris to London.

I've then got to arrange public transport back to South Wales.

I have had that email and this is what I did.

I contacted Air France (0208 7828112-from SayNoTo0870) and asked why my return flight had been routed to only Paris:confused:
He said that the computer automatically re-routes cases like this BUT is not clever enough to add the (required) connecting flight to LHR
He said he could manually do that now and was about to proceed to book a connecting flight from CDG to LHR.

I queried what my options were and if there were any direct flights from the West Coast USA.
He said there would not be any direct flights and I would have to connect via AMS or Paris.

I then asked, as I was having to change in Paris if I could stop over.

    NOW HERE's THE GOOD BIT.

The agent said that a stopover would change the cost of the ticket (ie. more money).
[a stop over is when you stay at the connecting airport for more than 24 hours]

    BUT

he could arrange it so that the connecting flight was just less than 24 hours later.
[if there is less than 24 hours between connecting flights, this is NOT classed as a stopover and is FREE]

    SO

He altered my return flight so that we arrive in Paris at 11:00 AM on the Friday and then leave again the following day at 10:00 AM

So we get a free one day stop in Paris.

AF 065 15:30 Los Angeles, Los Angeles Intl (LAX) CA - Usa - Terminal 2
11:00 Paris, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - France

    AF 1280 - Tempo
    - 10:00 Paris, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - France - Terminal 2E
10:15 London, Heathrow (LHR) - United Kingdom

I'm going to ring back later to see if Air France will pay for the hotel, but I doubt it. :D
