Hey guys, I emailed pigsback.com this morning just to ask about these rumours on the site closing down and here was the reply from them. They actually called me to explain the situation which is unusual for any company to do. Sounded very genuine and explanation makes sense.

    Hi Alan,

Thank for taking my call earlier and your email below.

Firstly, let me assure you that Pigsback.com is NOT closing. We are a successful company in Ireland employing almost 50 people, we have a dedicated UK team in place in our London office and we are recruiting members and clients as we go.

I'd like to tell you - in very blunt honesty - our view on recent events.

MoneySavingExperts is not something we have in Ireland. But I can see the value in it and the posters go to a lot of trouble. It's a community like our own Forum community - people go on and post good links for people who may not be familiar that there are savings available – so well done Martin!

When the first post about Pigsback.com went up we thought "great" because it is - people saw the value in our site and saw that yes, if you interact with Pigsback.com, you can earn PiggyPoints which you can get actual rewards for - Like the Love2Shop High Street vouchers. So members posting links up saying - You can earn Points here by answering this question with this answer, or by registering here is all well and good. Brilliant. That's what the site is here for.

Unfortunately someone went to the Irish site (having duplicate accounts in countries is against our Terms and Conditions) and then posted links to offers that were not applicable (nor may I add, of use!) to our UK members and not available to them on the UK site.

These included registration campaigns with Club Nokia Ireland (when you register you have to be resident in Ireland) that expired in September and October 2004 - therefore Pigsback were not being paid by the client to provide PiggyPoints - a campaign with O2 Ireland to register for the O2 Ireland newsletter (again you should be a resident and Pigsback are not being paid for other registrants), a campaign to register with eBay Ireland (despite the same campaign being live in the UK site) and a newsletter campaign again for Irish residents.

Pigsback.com is a business and a business has to have rules. We make money by advertising in an exclusive, hopefully unique and perhaps clever way to people who have TOLD US that they are interested in the products or services our clients provide. 1 PiggyPoint = 1p, and the cost of PiggyPoints is covered for us. Therefore we are using some of the money we get paid for advertising to give it back to you, our members. We are giving you money - for as a lot of posts on this forum reads - clicking around on links, answering questions and entering competitions, as well as taking up offers with our clients.

We are a club with members and as we said very clearly in emails we sent to everyone involved this week, a club has to have rules to protect the greater interest of the members. We have to enforce the rules.

We took the view that anyone who had availed of PiggyPoints unfairly should have them deducted from their account because they were not entitled to them. I mean, if your bank credited your account with money not yours and they took it back, could you complain? It's the same principle.

So we took those PiggyPoints from members’ accounts and anyone who had ordered a reward with those PiggyPoints had that order cancelled, but had all other PiggyPoints they were entitled to refunded to their accounts. Therefore, as we said in the email to them this week, those PiggyPoints can be used to order new rewards, spend in Jackpot pools, donate to charity or whatever. We will not be refunding other PiggyPoints.

Re vouchers - we sent an email to members who had ordered a Love2Shop voucher (these are the ones for Boots, WH Smith etc) advising them that they are on the way - we had ran out of stock due to high demand and are just waiting to get them in. For all those members who ordered a voucher that wasn't voided, I can assure you that they’re on the way, same as the other rewards we send out daily. We’ve taken them off site for the moment, as we don’t want members who order one to be waiting too long, but they will go back up soon.

I should suggest that people add @pigsback.com to their contacts and postmaster@pigsback.com, rewards@pigsback.com and curly@pigsback.com to their safe lists to ensure they get our mails. We reply to each and every mail we get - we never ever ignore any member - and sometimes these get lost in spam filters, junk mail folders etc.

Finally, and I'm sorry about the length of this email (but I want to be as thorough as possible) I'd ask you to bear with us - we're new - Curly's only starting out but we'll get there. I'm proud to say that our member services is excellent and like with you I have personally emailed or telephoned members about their accounts and resolved their issues - so much so that I have now a little team of members (some of them contributors to the MSE forum) who contact me with feedback about the site!

Finally we have loads of opportunities to earn PiggyPoints on site. Give it a go!

If I can be of any further help please let me know

    Thanks and kind regards

  • That's all very well but why cancel accounts without explaining? I did nothing that anyone else didn't do, I didn't have a duplicate account. I have had ALL my emails ignored since Monday, I have checked my Spam folders so it's def NOT there. My husband's account, at last check this morning, was still open so why?

I quote from the above post "I'm proud to say that our member services is excellent and like with you I have personally emailed or telephoned members about their accounts and resolved their issues - so much so that I have now a little team of members (some of them contributors to the MSE forum) who contact me with feedback about the site!" If they is peole on here who contribute in any way to Pigsback please will you look into this as I would like an answer asap.

    I don't hold out much hope :-(

If they employ 50 staff I have met about 7 of them today handing out pigs at Birmingham New Steet station. Ony lady was loading her shopping bag with as many pigs as possible, they are not that amazing, are they?

So they are clamping down on links from the Irish site being used on the English, hmm.. I still have quite a few that still work. They must have only stopped the ones that I have posted in this thread.

Yvonne, why not just set up another account? If it is the points that you are after I could easily get you up to 1000 points.
  • *IF* I was to set up another account they would just shut that one as then I would be classed as having 2 accounts even though one of them had been shut, does that make sense?

I think we all agree that if they are going to remove remards/points etc then notification should be given as to the reasons why. I guess you can understand if it contradicts their T&C's but maybe as a goodwill gesture they should give 24 hours to use themon their own rewards as opposed to customers getting nothing??
