Sealed Pot Challenge!!

Until today I was still putting the money in my money box. But made a sealed tin today from an old biscuit tin with a hole put in the lid with a stanley knife. I have sealed it up wuth some thick black tape from DHs tool kit. That won;t come unstuck as I have put many layers on. So I cannot touch it in a hurry!
Anyway had just over £24 already!

I don't think you are too late to join, it's just that the person running the challenge has been a bit poorly. I'm sure she will add you when she's feeling better. In the meantime, keep filling that pot!
Trying to keep adding to mine on a regular basis but haven't a clue what's in there - hoping for a nice surprise next year!0 -
OK - started my pot from Poundland. Am aiming for £300-£400 for next Christmas, and the pot is already starting to feel heavy! (might need to get another one)I'm not counting anything as a put it into the pot, just empty my coins in at the end of the day. Hoping for a nice surprise when it'opened :)FiJeff Wayne's War of the Worlds Live is AWESOME!!2009 Sealed Pot Challenge Banked £100Comp wins: Shearer Candles (£43)Depressed, dieting, binge-eater with gastric bypass. Where is the recipe for paper mache?
It sounds like a great thing to do with the kids at school - would it be awful if I made myself one at the same time :rotfl:Cash Cow ~ Phil the Pig
My preferred paste recipe for the creation of unusual sealed money pots/pigs/cows
Mix one cup plain flour with one cup water
Bring 2 cups water to the boil
Slowly stir in the cup of paste
Simmer until it looks like paste
Bung it in a plastic tub and sit it in a basin of cold water to cool it down
Coat your strips of newspaper/magazines/bank statements in the paste and stick to the balloon.
I use cut up egg cartons for feet and snouts, cut down toilet roll inner tubes stuffed with scrunched up papers for legs, nilk carton tops for feet/noses etc and cut up cardboard or paper for tails / ears etc.
The above paste recipe is used for the simple fact that the kids tend to stick their hands in their mouths and flour/water paste is not toxic.
My finished articles are painted with emulsion or poster paints, whichever you have lying around the house, but you could miss out the painting by making the last layer of paper from the same colour or by cutting out shapes, like the the OP did when making 'Spot the Pig'. Phil the Pig is pink emulsion and cash cow is white emulsion with black poster paint.
Make sure your final creation is dried out solid before you cut a slot in it and burst the balloon, otherwise you'll end up with a soggy heap :rotfl:
Hope this helps and please leave us a photo on here to see.
I've combined this challenge with my 'start a cottage' industry challenge and have now got a completely sealed wooden box made from off-cuts plus Christmas gifts for family members - mum's getting a cash cow LOL (Hope she isn't reading this!! )I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

NOTE FOR SPUD30: One is NEVER too old to play at making paper mache animals.
NOTE FOR STACY: There is still hope for the human race. I love hearing stories like yours, it reinforces my belief that there are still many good people out there and they will always outnumber the bad ones.
NOTE FOR ALL: Don't you just love this free smiley? I think it's brilliant, and reflects how we all feel when we get a £2 coin in our change, have a handful of change to go in our sealed pots, make a sale on eBid or eBay or any other little money savers' dream come true. LOLI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
