Lastly (and the real reason for this message :D ) I would love a recipe for Chocolate bread for my daughter (and for me:rotfl: )

This isn't tried and tested, it came out of a library book I happen to have to hand. You make it as normal in a breadmaker and add the chocolate at the beeps.

The quantities are for a small loaf, for a large it's more or less double:

5 fluid oz (2/3 cup) water
    1 egg
    13oz (3 1/4 cups) white bread flour
    1 tablespoon caster sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 oz butter
    1 teaspoon easy blend yeast

    5 oz plain chocolate chopped
(this recipe suggests an ounce and a half of fruit and nut, same of ginger chocolate and two ounces of plain dark chocolate)

I'm converting to the idea of cups - I've got a little jug from Tescos with measurements down the side and have printed out the relevant section from a web page showing how many cups 8oz flour, sugar, oats etc are. I'm sure I saw something here somewhere but couldn't find it.

This bread is lovely for that first slice of toast in the morning - fills the house with the aroma of cinnamon. I have absolutely no idea why but it's great for chicken sandwiches too.

    Ingredients:

    3 teaspoons cinnamon

    3oz 75g sultanas

    Instructions:

Add the cinnamon to a standard bread mix.

If your machine beeps to add fruit this is the time to add the sultanas. If not, you'll have to pay attention to the machine and add the sultanas during the second knock up. Too early and they'll get mashed up.

Firstly a very big thank you to Squeaky and Judi for all their hard work setting up the breadmaking recipe and index. Infact the whole oldstyle recipe/cleaning/breadmaking index is very impressive (noticed that Martin was so impressed by it all that he is going to include it in the next email he sends out!)

    Anyway back to business

What a great idea! I have made potato bread in my breadmaker, but nobody ever mentioned using potato water before. I usually have tons of it, do you think it would be ok to freeze it and then use it as and when? (sad I know, but if it is as good as Megasaver says ;) it might be worth freezing)

If I have room in my freezer I will definitely freeze the potato water in bags - no problem there - just have to remember to get it out in time! The other thing I forgot to mention about this is you need to be careful of saltiness of the potato water before throwing it into the breadmaker - so you may have to reduce the salt in the bread recipe to compensate.

I sometimes do add milk powder - it is supposed to make the crust crisper. BTW if I don't have milk powder and I don't have potato water guess what I sometimes do instead? I add a tablespoon of instant potato powder (like Smash but I just get the value stuff ) to the ingredients - works a treat!

Just to let you know I made this yesterday and it was pretty good. I halved the chocolate as that is all I had and made up the amount with nuts and raisin - so next time I will have a go at making it with the full amount of chocolate. I also want to try the chocolate bread recipe posted by rchddap1 (but I am not very good at using cups) btw congratulations on joining us mad breadmachine people!!!!!

The only reason I listed my recipe in cups is that when I bought my machine it came with a cup. So, the recipe book is all in cups too.

I have to say that I think it is great. So far I have made 2 loaves of bread, a cake and a pizza, and it was all fantastic. I should have done this a long time ago. All I need now is more recipes to try.

    Bread rolls next I think.

There's a very good chance that each of us, with different machines, will have a selection of different recipes in their little hand books. I have every intention of posting a few more from mine when I have a bit of time. Perhaps others could too?

Just thought of a tip that others might find useful. When I first got my breadmaker I would only ever buy and use STRONG BREAD FLOUR in it as I was so worried about the recipe going wrong. Since then, I have used lots of different types of flour in it, infact any flour I have (plain, self-raising, rice flour etc) as it is a good way of using it up! The bread that comes out is always fine. I certainly stock up when the plain one is on offer as I know I can use it in my machine and I often mix it with strong bread flour too.

That sounds like a great idea Squeaky! Hope others will share their bread recipes.
