those who have ntl/telewest will know its recently been taken over by virgin
As I understand it, NTL took over Virgin, not the other way round, but get to use the Virgin brand.
From THIS thread
If you're a Virgin Media customer (the renamed NTL/Telewest)

I just called up this morning to complain about the lack of Sky1 (I didn't watch it loads but enjoyed Futurama and occasionally unwinding with The Simpsons in the evening) - I told them that my broadband was too slow as the deal Sky are offering (£26 + bt line rental) includes 8 meg broadband and loads of channels... Anyway they offered me a different deal.
Previously I was on Broadband M (2 meg), TV XL (FKA Family pack), and Telephone M (Weekend national calls). This was costing me £42.99 per month (IIRC) although I had complained previously and got it taken down to £32.99 per month for 6 months - this was due to expire soon I think.
New package: Broadband L (4 meg), TV XL, Telephone L (Free Evening/Weekend national landline calls) for £35.
One of my friends also called up this morning and got given the same deal when he mentioned that he knew someone it had been offered to.0 -

the other day i phoned up to downgrade my supreme package as i'm out of work, and i was told i could actually have the same package with 4 mb instead of my existing 2mb broadband for almost a tenner cheaper a month!!
so everyone should give them a call, i'm sure they will change everyone over at some point but you could save money right away!!!
i know its not technically a freebie, but i guess its free money!!
I would just like to say a HUGE thank you for this thread. I have just contacted them, was on hold for 45 minutes but boy was it worth it.
I started by saying that they either had a VERY long queue of people wanting to leave them or that we were at the bottom of their list of priorities when it came to answering calls. Very nice call handler apologised profusely said we were certainly not at the bottom of the list and that they were just very busy and even admitted that alot of it had to do with the loss of certain channels. I then said I had been considering switching to SKY for some time but with the loss of Sky 1, it was now even more of a possibilty unless he could come up with something to make me stay.
I have been with them for about 8 years and currently pay 72.25 per month
Line Rental - 11.00
Talk Unlimited - 14.00 (unlimited calls 24/7 to any UK landline - we use the phone ALOT)
TV (XL Package) - 20.50
4mb Broadband - 25.00
Call Bar (so son cannot ring mates mobiles) - 1.75
I NOW get the whole lot, exactly as is, for

I am presently with Virgin via the phone, and frankly it is !!!!!!.
I have cable BB & have always had fantastic speeds, just been upgraded from 4 meg to 10 meg as part of a deal. 10 meg is fantastic but we were equally happy with the 4 meg speedsVirgin CC [strike]£6133[/strike]- gone!!!!

PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT0 -
Just to let you all know, I'm an ex-NTL customer - paying £24.99 a month for phone (weekends/M) and 2mb BB. Rang up the other week, asking if I could switch to Virgin's £20 equivalent, even though I knew the Ts & Cs stated that existing customers could only switch if adding a service (I was going to upgrade to include L TV for £30, but I'm not going to now due to the lack of Sky stuff). I was told that I could possibly get a discount, at least, but couldn't switch at the time as they needed to talk to my fiance.
So today, he rang up... and was offered a £19.95 deal, including the same BB and an upgrade right the way up to XL phone! Just like I now notice one of the posters above got! I couldn't believe it, I didn't expect that!0 -
They sure are desperate to keep people - it's even possible that the Sky channels will be back as I believe NTL/Virgin are going to take them to court if this doesn't get resolved within 30 days... I will be double pleased if the sky channels come back AND i've negotiated a better (lasting) deal for myself :-)0

right i was on telewest 3 for £29 2mb bb (m), starter tv (m), phone free weekend calls(m). Didn't use the phone or tv so now just on 2mb bb for 9.99/ month. No tie in and it is for a whole 12 months! Was offered 2mb bb, tv xl, phone xl for 19.99 but didn't want this as hardly use the phone and don't really watch much tv. Told him I want to keep the TV box for freeview but the guy said that is not available without phone! This is the 2rd retentive guy that has told me that so I guess it must be true. I know people on here like Swami who have TV L plus 2mb bb for 9.99 so I am a bit miffed at this as I wanted to keep the box for teleport replay.
But I will use VoIP and get a cheap Sky dish for ~60 quid for the free channels so should all work out OK!
£9.99/month 2mb bb for 12 months no tie in!0 -
"What SKY have done with Virgin is deplorable. "
I think of it more as what Virgin have done to Virgin customers - never once were we asked if we wanted to pay an extra 93p a month to keep the channels...I for one would have paid, and it would save all the hassle of haggling with parents to get sky!
I on the other hand wouldn't have done unless sky had a justifiable reason (other than wanting world domination) for putting up the price......me thinks were would it end.Virgin CC [strike]£6133[/strike]- gone!!!!
