Am I being stupid in my Digital TV setup?

Just bought a new digital TV with built in freeview for the lounge, however when set it up, I am trying to get my VCR to setup to record, but whenever I am in digital mode on the TV the VCR does not see anything of these channels, it sees all the analogue ones no problem, but the screen is blank when it should be picking up the digital pictures, the TV and VCR are connected via a SCART lead. I did have a seperate set top box before on my non digital TV and had that connected via the SCART lead, this was able to record the digital channels no problem.

thoughts appreciated.

Is there an AV1 option on the TV? The VCR takes signals from the aerial, not the TV.

So the TV AV1 input should receive signals from the VCR. The fact you have a new TV shouldn't affect what signals the VCR is getting. Is the VCR capable of receiving digital signals?

Sounds like your old set up was

    *Picture comes in aerial
*Picture goes into set top box
    *Picture goes into VCR
*Picture goes into TV (via scart)

    Your new set up has
    *Picture comes into aerial
    *Picture goes into TV

    Sound about right?

its very old, so I suspect not, what is required to find out whether it does or not? is there a code in the manual?

Your TV digital tuner is built in and probably doesn't have any output to feed into the VCR. You may need to carry on using your set top box if you want to record ....or it is time to upgrade to a digital recorder (hard drive or dvd etc.)

actually having said that, why would I have been able to record when it was a set top box? is it because it has to translate it differently when it is built into the TV?

    I've got a similar problem

just bought a new Sony W5810 with built in Freeview & Freesat

I'm trying to connect it to a sony DVD recorder

have followed the intructions on how to conect the two together
e.g Ariel to DVD recorder, lead from DVD to back on Tv and scart from DVD av1 to TV AV1

have tried several times to record, sometimes I get the freeview channel
other times I get a blank black screen

am I wrong In asuming that the AV1 or AV2 scart channel you should be able to see the tv channel assumming its wired up corect, which I certain it is

how am I suppose to record things off the TV either by instant record or by the timer

    any offers

    TIA

Basically your new TV has a digital tuner but your old VCR doesn't. Therefore your VCR won't see the digital images.

the set top box output went into the VCR, then from there into the TV, so the VCR 'intercepted' the signal on the way through and recorded it.
Now the TV is getting the freeview signal and your VCR doesn't have a freeview tuner in it so it can only see the normal terrestrial channels, the TV is doing the freeview stuff and not giving it out to the VCR.
