I'd hazard a guess it's "peperone rosso", but I have to warn you that my knowledge of Italian is based purely on the coastal dialect in my part of Croatia, so I can by no means confirm that a proper Italian would call it that.

Okay guys - now I know that we are all extremely busy here, but I really would be very, very grateful if you could look the next post over (the one with the batch cooking list in it) and tell me what you think. Is it clear ? Is it helpful ? Is it too long ? Does it look too intimidating ?

Furthermore, should I try to integrate the "cooking advice" with the list, or should they be kept separate ? My instinct is to integrate - I feel this would make things much clearer to a novice, and would avoid repeating information - but my concern is that the end result would then be really rather long. Help :) Pretty please.....

Batch Cooking Day 1 (before you start)

    Soak chickpeas the night before
    Bread x 2
    Apple Curd
    Houmus
    Nut Butter x 2
    Tangy Bean Pate x 2
    Liver pate (to freeze)
    Grate cheese
    Slice bacon
    Chop onion
    Onion tart x2
    Carrot cake
    Marmalade
    Mayo
    Savoury scones
    Raisin scones
    Savoury bites

Essentials: Bread, spreads (apart from liver pate), one carrot cake and a snack. The rest can be made throughout the week to spread the load. Mayo does not keep well, so make it when you fancy eating it. If you only make 1 batch of bread, you will need to make another on Thursday.

Batch cooking Day 2 (end of first week)

Soak marrowfat peas the night before
Poach chicken, portion up, make stock
Chicken and onion pie x 2
    Bread x 2
Pea and apple soup x 3
Potato and onion soup x 3
    HM pizza x 3
Bacon and onion pudding x 2
    Savoury scones
    Biscuits
    Tomato scones
    Carrot cake
    Breakfast pancakes x 2

Essentials: chicken, stock, soups and pies - if you are short of freezer space, just make what you'll eat on the day for soups as they are easy enough to prepare from scratch every time you have them. One batch of bread - you can make another on Thursday; bacon and onion puddings (unless you have a free day for steaming them on Monday)

Batch Cooking Day 3 (end of second week)

    Bread x 3
    Carrot cake
    Bean curry x 3
    Amatriciana x 3
    Savoury scones
    Raisin scones
    Savoury bites
    Biscuits

Essentials: Bread. although if you only make one batch, you'll need to make another on Tuesday, and yet another on Friday. As all the other dishes are easy to prepare from scratch on the night if necessary, try to get ahead on the bread and on snacks if you can. Also if you've only made one batch of bean pate and nut butter, and not made the liver pate as yet, now is the good time to do so.

Batch Cooking Day 4 (end of week 3)
    Bread x 2

    Carrot cake
    Veggie Burgers
    Tomato Scones
    Raisin scones
    Savoury bites

Essentials: Bread. You can make another batch on Thursday; ditto for carrot cake. Veggie burgers can be prepared on Tuesday just make sure you can allow sufficient time for them to rest in the fridge. If you finish work late, consider preparing them the night before and leaving in the fridge overnight.

Batch Cooking Day 5 (end of week four)

    Bread
    Savoury scones
    Raisin scones
    Tomato scones
Make a start on next month's food

Hi, just de-lurkign to say that the batch cooking list scares me! Perhaps if you put the essentials first?

Also, will the listed items automatically link to the receipes if required for ease of use?

Thanks for delurking - I was starting to wonder if it was so intimidating that no one even dared read it !

How would you feel about it if I interspersed little bite-sized bits (as in essentials first, then snacks you can get ahead on, then dinners etc.) with general advice from the "Cooking advice" section on the website ? So it would look something like this:

To make your life easier when starting out, there are a couple of things you can do in advance in order to get ahead and avoid last-minute panic at mealtimes. Bread, for instance, while not being at all labour-intensive, does need some time to prove, so it's probably best if you make the first batch the weekend before you start following the plan. Make four loaves at a time: it's not only labour-saving, but it also saves on fuel costs as it makes the most efficient use of the oven.

Spreads (Apple Curd, Houmus, Nut Butter, Tangy Bean Pate and Liver pate ) can also be done the day before, and if you do the tangy bean pate and then the liver pate - you won't need to wash up in between, not so the other way around. Ditto apple curd then seed butter.

See what I mean ? All the info is still there, but it feels a bit gentler and friendlier.

    Or does it ?

ETA: I don't know about linking to the recipes though - that's Weezl country :D It'd be great if it wasn't too difficult to do it, wouldn't it ?

Do you need the Vegan stuff tested, or has that been done?
