Wanting to find best price for the above journey travelling on 24th Nov returning 25th for open day at the uni. Return journey will be after 6pm. There will be 3 of us, 1 a student and prices so far coming out around the £300 mark although a search on virgins site for the week before as a comparison brings up £11 each way tickets to London from Manchester.
One other point I would be eligable for a disabled rail card.
Thanks to anyone looking0 -

You are a bit early to be booking - the cheap fares aren't out yet though it shouldn't be long before they are.

Hi there,
Can anyone help me find a cheap ticket? I need to get from Braintree, Essex to Nottingham on Sat 12th Sep, returning the next day or Monday. I'm not too fussed about times but would need to be in Nottingham before 5pm.
I've checked trainline and it's coming back at around £43 return - that's travelling from Stansted Airport (saves me £20 on a ticket from Braintree and only up the road).
Thanks!0 -

Mon 14Sep dep Nottingham 13:02, arr Braintree 16:53. Change at St.Pancras and Liverpool Street. Advance Single £16.00.
All this info gleaned from the NXEC website.0 -
Would you prefer to travel from Braintree?

Thanks for that. Think I'd prefer to go via Stansted and avoid London. But I'll take a look at that website too.0 -
Think I'd prefer to go via Stansted and avoid London.
But you did ask for a cheap ticket, and went on to say "from Braintree, Essex".
My proposal meets both these criteria, and is £8 cheaper (not £20 dearer) that from Stanstead Airport.
But, of course, entirely your call.:beer:0 -
I've done my best to scout round to get cheap train tickets but to no real avail.
I visit someone on a fairly regular basis in Faverhsam, Kent. My nearest station is Bodmin Parkway. So far I've managed to get the journey cost down to £23.50 return ( child's ) but i was wondering if it was possible to get this journey any cheaper?
The dates in question are 2/10/09 until 6/10/09.
I've heard of split ticketing...but ive got no real idea of which stations to use? Any help would be much appreciated,

I can't see any way of getting anywhere near that fare so if it's real grab it fast. It's dirt dirt cheap.
split ticketing - Plymouth, Exeter. Possibly Bristol but not all trains go that way and it's a slower roundabout route. NOT London - you need a through advance fare to Faversham to avoid that leg costing the earth.0 -
Hi moneysavers...
Wondering if you can help, I've left this a little late for getting the good advanced fares, but I need to get to Newcastle on 19th September, arriving late afternoon, and returning on the 20th, leaving around lunchtime preferably. I can travel from Tiverton Parkway, any of the Exeter stations, Honiton or Taunton.
I can't seem to find any really good savings, hoping someone can help here...
Thanks in advance0
