New Aerial Needed

I'm fed up with shelling out for Sky that I dont watch so going to switch to Freeview. For that though I need an external aerial on the roof.

I've been quoted £150+VAT for the aerial, cabling and installation which seems expensive. They are also vague about any 'extras'. All companies seem to be around the same cost ball park.

I live in South London. Anybody got any recent experience on this with things to look out for and costs/recommendations?

hi aerialman, i had an aerial fitted to my old house in 2000 and it cost me £270 that was with a long pole because i had poor reception and it was a digital one, so, if i wanted to get freeview then it was in place. however i had the local cable tv. so, i would say that quote is not to bad. did you know you can get freeview through your comp via a small device you plug into your usb, i saw one yesterday in maplins for about £70.00 but i know you can get them much cheaper on ebay. my friends got one and he whatch's his through his laptop and it is perfect and that is with the little aerial that came with it.

I put my own aerial in the loft,simply attached to a purlin and dropped a co-ax through the eaves,down the wall and drilled through into my lounge.The picture is perfect and the aerial cost about 12 quid from Wickes.I am not sure what type of aerial is needed for freeview but maybe this could be an option.

As some folk know ( as i have helped in the past) I own my own aerial company.The only fair way to get an aerial fitted wiuthout being ripped off,is to get a member of the "confederation of aerial industries " to do the job.Check out their website

My ex landlady paid £70 inc the cost of a new freeview aerial & 3 points around the house last year.

Where in the country are you? She phoned up about 3 people from the Yellow Pages.

I certainly would not pay more than £100.

I'm in Scotland and I paid £70 for a new aerial in my loft and he even connected up my freeview box for me.

Don't worry about getting a new aeriel.

Cancel sky and they will turn your card into a free sat from sky card.

This enables you to get all the channels on https://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk website for no charge at all on your satellite digibox.

I have been quoted about £300 for new aerial, long pole cabling and three aerial sockets aorund the house. Any comments?

we payed £70 for a new ariel for us to get freeview, id say maybe a year after we ahd to get a new one as the first had been blown off due to some strong winds

If it helps we paid £120 for them to put something on the roof and a booster box behind the telly??? (I'm up north)
