oo hugs Pam thats SO annoying and def worth a drink! Just home from babysitting where I finished 3rd square and now going to try this hat from linky aboue (bbc stoke and stafford...) but help translating it would be appreciated...my ? in red!;

Double Knit Yarn.No 8 Needles.
Finished Hat weights approx ¾ oz or 25grms
Cast on 30 . (36) stitches Do I cast on 30 or 36 stitches?
Do not cast on too tight(Leave a length of yarn end to sew seam up with)
Row 1 KnitRow 2 PurlRow 3 Knit
Repeat rows 1 to 3 until work measures approx 10" (12") Is this 10 or 12 inches? Maybe if it is then 30 stitches=10 inches and 36= 12 inches?
( 14 (16) Purl ridges on each side of work) ? hugh? what does this mean!!
Cast off.
Do not cast off tightly
Draw up one side to form a crown.
Sew up side seam.

Other that that reacon I could manage it! Does it have to be plain wool or can I use some funky/textured stuff I got? Huge thanks in advance!!

Good evening! - am now a happier bunny, thanks.
re the instructions:
1) NOTE you need size 4mm or UK 8 needles

2) Cast on 30 . (36) you're right - when you see numbers in bracket like this the first number is the smallest size following (bracketed numbers) are for larger sizes - 30 stitches=10 inches and 36= 12 inches? make sure you always use the number in the same position.

3) ( 14 (16) Purl ridges on each side of work)- a purl ridge is a row of raised (squashed) "u"s seen on the 'right' side of a purl row or the 'wrong side' of a knit row. In this case its a counting guide, use a tape measure to be sure.

Use plain yarn first time you knit it so you can see the stitches clearly

Suggest you check Maytaurus's links post #964 I think you'll find some fun tutorial links there.

Hope this helps in the meantime.

Thank pepys....will use a thickish wool and have a go...I did start last night but the wool is too thin so its quite holey which isnt much good for a hat lol!!

Morning all! Where did the weekend go?? I feel like it's no time at all since I was sitting here at work, why is it the weekdays drag and the weekends fly? Hope you're all well, hugs for those who need them. Hugs for those who don't need them but want them anyway :D

In Search Of Me - you could probably still use the thinner wool to knit hats, but you'd need to decrease the size of your needles. Obviously the hat will turn out smaller too mind you, but for some preemies that may not be a problem!

Good to hear a shot of whisky did the trick for you Pam, never fails here thats for sure! :rotfl:

Sorry to report yet again that I can't get hold of Mioliere, I rang FT (french speaking) and they got back and said that the line is active. When I dial it this morning it doesn't ring, beep or anything - just sounds like an open line with a lot of crackles?
Maytaurus I did know about the EINGREESH speaking line see this link
http://brittany.angloinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=91938
I personally have never had to try them, but I appreciate the link you sent it could be helpful for others.
I do hope that as I haven't yet managed to speak to Kathy, she will visit her local FT shop (I linked her a map prior to her leaving UK) and organize someone to call out and sort what ever is wrong. You get to set up your own broadband box here and if you get so much as one plug in the wrong order you are stuffed.
FT won't let me arrange a call out on her behalf because if there is no fault the owner has to pay them for an abortive visit.............I will not give up and will keep you all informed if and when progress is made.........Just all keep thinking positive thoughts - ta muchly

hope shelly and Kathy get their puter probs sorted and are back with us soon.
i hope kathys move went well and its just puter probs stopping her joining us.
Maytaurus im glad to see you are posting again i hope that means you are feeling well. I love the piccys you post you always seem to have a lovely upbeat attitude that lifts the spirits of the thread whe you are around it
I hope everyone had a good weekend it was cold here but the upside of that was i got my sewing machine out and tackled the mending pile:o also managed to get a few more puffing bags made from a dark purple bedsheet no one used anymore. Knitting has mostly consisted of boobs im going to stick on them till ive used all my pink wool up to help bump shellys totals for the request she had.
Spoke to friend this morning her DH loved the boobhat and cant wait to introduce it at his next talk on thursday-he thinks other policeman will be sending orders when they see how good he looks in his:rotfl: .

We had a choirboys meeting last night so i handed in all ther knitting i have so far The "Eggs"travaganza is on saturday 15th April so if anyone else has any things they have kindly knitted for them please could i have them before that date:A . I will let you know how the day goes and im sure there will be photos on the choirboys website.

better go and wash the brecky pots now then i can finish the boob im on before doing some ironing-then better go to work.

Have a lovely day all

Part of the Furniture
Morning

In Search of Me - this is much easier than it sounds as you will see when you start on it. If you do use finer wool just use a smaller needle and do the larger size, or just try doubling the wool up and see how that goes. :D

Lorna - yes you are right about fluffy wool....it is not recommended for prem babies, I read it on one of the sites somewhere, where  who knows, with my memory lately :rotfl:
Maytaurus - thanks :T I will go take a look at them, I am getting desperate now, my stash is starting to take over ;)

Jean - thanks for trying for us and keeping us posted :A

SGT - What a shame poor Shelley hope she is back on line soon, its awful with out t'internt isnt it??? whatever did we do without it ;)

Did some more boobs last night just need to sew them up now, I send them to Shelley unstuffed as I can get more things in the bag then. None of them are quite boob colours as I've been using some bits up, they are nice and colourful though

ooo talking boobs mrs.m did he like the boob hat

edit: ooops just noticed we crossed, glad it went down well, so will you be starting a business now then ;)
