I give my DD almond nut butter as it's a good source of calcium, also the whole earth peanut butter is lovely, and great for littlies (if you let them have peanut butter) as it has no salt/sugar etc. Cashew nut butter is sooooo good and I was wanting to make a satay style sauce with it but it's pretty pricey! Maybe for a special occasion.0

I make a sweet cashew butter spread using unsalted cashews. (£5.99 for 1000g in tesco if on a budget). I grind the cashews then add orange juice to achieve spreadable consistancy and store in the fridge. Obviously it won't last long because if the orange juice, but you can make small quantities.
I am sure you could roast the cashews and make into cashew butter also, but haven't tried that yet.

i hadn't eaten TVP for a while but had a linda mccartney pie last night and have had gas all day, is there something to do with soya that the body doesn't like digesting?0

The Vegan Society pancake recipe -
125g plain flour
50g soya flour
250ml soya milk
2 tsp vegetable oil
Sieve the plain and soya flours into a bowl, gradually add the soya milk, whisking vigorously to make a smooth batter. Add the oil and whisk again. It says it serves 4, but I've found that this quantity makes about 5 pancakes so I tend to quadruple the quantities!!!
I also find I add a bit more milk - can't say exactly how much, just enough to make it thin cream consistency.
Parsleysoup.co.uk also has a very nice recipe for the small Scotch pancakes.0 -
Can any of you long term vegans recommend any reasonably priced (cheap) shampoos , conditioners and other toiletries. Ive looked on quite a few websites and they are so expensive as are all the toiletries and cleaning products. So what are the best money saving vegan toiletries ?Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

I think some of the Sainsburys own brand range of toiletries are vegan.0

Lots of co-op brand cleaning products and toiletries are vegan.0

Thanks sparklewing and lolabug Im going near to Sainsburys this afternoon so will have a look in there if I have time (hospital app ) Theres only a small Co op near me so I dont expect they stock much, but I will check it out next time Im passing.
I have ordered a shampoo and conditioner from the faith in Nature website, it was about £4.00 each for 400 mls so not too bad I thought. Also they are chocolate scented so I cant wait for them to arriveReal stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

I buy Meridian peanut butter in the HFS, it comes in a big tub that lasts us a month or two -- this is the cheapest peanut butter I've found anywhere. (I'm American so we eat a lot of peanut butter in our house!). It also has no added salt or sugar and comes in crunchy or creamy versions.0
