Hi all ;)

I haven't actually changed the layout of the collections sticky and indexes as yet but I thought I'd let you know that there's more than one way to navigate them.

All of the Recipe Indexes are kept in a single thread. The various menu's allow readers to step to the particular index (such as Old Style >> Sweets) in a straightforward way. But long winded I know :)

If you want to short cut the steps you can simply scroll down through the thread to find the index you want.

This is also true in the Collections thread too.

I've placed a big bright box saying this in the two threads where this is most helpful. :)

Just to let everyone know, the board guides have been asked to keep permanent stickies to a maximum of 7, preferably between 3 and 5 if possible so it's easier to navigate the boards, so these indexes (indices?) help keep them down but mean old, really good threads can still be found quite easily.

    Andrea :)

Just to let you know that the daily threads are now archived into one thread per month once a week. Squeaky has merged them onto the one thread HERE. :)

This should make it easier for everyone to find any tips or posts they need in amongst the threads as you only have 12 to search through a year instead of 365 :)

The threads are only added onto the monthly thread after 1 week so today Monday 13th June has been added, tomorrow Tues 14th June etc.. etc.. you get the idea ;) Mostly everyone posts to the new thread as soon as it is started anyway so I don't think merging them will cause any problems and they will still be open i.e not locked so, if you need to you can still post onto them :)

    Hi everyone, :)

You'll have noticed that we have now unstickied the Index Collection Thread and also the Monthly Challenges Thread. The threads still exist, but now that we have their links on the blue bar which is at the top of every page - including the main Old Style Forum Page - it just makes us a bit more space for other things as they come up.

Just to let you all know that we have recently come across the original mse recipe thread. It will be linked in the mega index shortly, but for those who would like a preview we are posting it here first.

You can find it here: The Recipe Thread

    Good morning everyone. :)

I'm sorry for the large number of stickies that we have right now but that's normal while we have the two Challenges stickied for the first few days and I will, as usual be unsticking them on the first and making sure that they are the Highlighted Challenges in the quote boxes that you can find using the Monthly Challenges link in the blue bar on every page (see picture below).

You'll have noticed that we have had a sticky in place called "The Complete Slow Cooker Collection" and this is now available through the Indexed Collections link in the blue bar on every page and also through the Cooking section of the MEGA Index sticky. This will be unstickied soon to make way for a build of The Complete Breadmaking Collection. A recent search on bread* showed over a hundred threads on the subject!

    Hmm...

Actually, what I started this post for was to let you know that I have reworked the menu tree for the main Indexed Collections so there is now one less step to work through to get to the recipes.

    I hope this helps :)

    Hi everyone,

It would, as was said earlier, be a good idea to collect menu plans all in one place, but since OS is busier than ever I have my hands full with the half dozen or so that I already do and keeping up with all the new posts.

So if there is somebody who would like to a) compile AND b) keep up such a collection could you please PM me.

    TYIA :)

Can I remind you all please...

We are being swamped lately by an increasing number of chatty posts and, while I have every sympathy for those wishing to unload a bad day and seek advice and a hug, or tell us all about a nice day, Old Style is not the place the do it.

However loosely, Old Style is based around money saving areas in what most of us know as domestic science and home economics.

Because Old Style is a community though, and a good one, we have a daily thread which is our on line equivalent of chatting over the fence with the neighbours, so if your post is not a moneysaving post, please join the daily thread rather than start a new one.

    TYIA :)

If your post is not about money saving it should not be posted anywhere other than the Daily Thread or into Discussion Time or The Arms.

Chatty posts are being moved into the daily thread if it is possible to do so and still leave things readable and not tangled up. Otherwise they will be moved to a more appropriate forum.

I'll quote the formal phrasing for this below for you.

KEEPING TOPICS RELEVANT TO THE BOARD

Please only start MoneySaving discussions on the main boards. There are two boards provided for off-topic chat and discussion. The MoneySavers Arms has been set up for fun, more lighter-hearted chat (although do still remember this is a family forum – keep it clean please). Discussion Time is for discussion of current issues (read Martin’s description).

If you post a topic that does not relate to the board it’s posted on it will be moved to a more relevant MoneySaving board or to Discussion Time/The MoneySavers Arms.

    Hello everyone.

Over the last few days we have been bombarded by large numbers of posts in new threads that have already been well covered, often very recently, or threads which are not generally Old Style in content.

This has meant that we have been spending almost all our time on the board just moving and merging posts - time that we'd like to spend finding answers to genuinely new queries for you.

We are aware that the search facility is not always very helpful, but it does work to some degree and there is an excellent guide by sra in the MSE A-Z which will help you make better use of it here:-

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...723#post325723

We also have a number of collections with lots of posts already listed and indexed to help you on the most common topics that come up on Old Style. You can find these via my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

    newbar.gif
    pagetop.gif

Finally we have an indexed list of THREE THOUSAND threads, all collected into topics and sorted and indexed for you in the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the Old Style Forum listing. This makes it the most comprehensive resource on the forum and is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find out if your question, or one very similar, has been asked before.

We know that many people feel that they don't like to "hijack" another thread - but if it is very similar to your own query then you are very welcome to join it and add your own post onto it.

With the many thousands of threads now present on Old Style it's true to say that there isn't much that hasn't already been asked and answered somewhere. Honest :)

So please, please, do your best to find an existing thread that either has an answer for you, or that you can reasonably add your follow-up question to.
Please help us to help you.

And if you're having difficulty, or are unsure whether your post is best suited for Old Style or perhaps one of our other boards, then by all means PM one of us to ask and we'll do our very best to point you in the right direction. (Pink winged tells me that she really enjoys searching things out and will be more than happy to respond to PM's whenever she is on-line)

    Hello everyone, :)

As you'll see, the MEGA Index sticky has now been replaced with:-

Money Saving Old Style - Indexed Collections

The MEGA Index is still there - but now the FIRST post is a list (needs tidying up a bit yet - well, a LOT) of all your indexes, and the SECOND post contains the original MEGA - which also needs a lot of work now to fit in with all the work you guys have done.

Everything works, or should, it's just not neat yet.

The Forum Team will be changing the link in the bar at the top of the page:-

    newbar.gifnewbar.gif

...and this will mean then that ALL our indexes will be availabe from a single link on EVERY page!

    Way to go! :)

I am so-o-o-o chuffed! Thank you all.

A special thanks to Pink and Gingham because they've been taking the brunt of looking after the board (and still finding time to help me out!) while I've been so involved in all this.

    Thanks both.

    Hi all,

We've been watching the daily lately, knowing that Old Style goes through various phases, hoping that the rash of photos and so on would die down, but they appear to be increasing rapidly.

This is not what the Daily Thread is for.

Chatty, yes, by all means - but the basic point behind those threads should have something to do with Old Style and how it helps with money saving and covers what we all know as Home Economics or Domestic Science.

So as of midnight tonight - if you want to show everybody photos of your pets or your dream partner then please start an Old Style Photo Album in The Arms.

However loosely, do please try to keep the topics Old Style.

We'd also like to ask that you go back and edit a post that you've thought of an addition to, rather than posting several one line posts in quick succession. This will keep the thread a little shorter and easier to read.
