Plaguerising on websites??

  • Some of the photos were taken by ourselves. Others we had permission to use BEFORE we set up the website from the camera inventor. The 2nd website hasn't taken our photos - these are the inventors photos - hopefully, they asked him before using, as we did. Then again if you read the 2nd website then  :A PMSL! Hmmm - now how do you tell JC he's copied your writings? Being omnipotent he doesn't need to do that does he?

I looked on the site that lets you see if anyone has copied your writings. It was strange that some sites had taken some of the things I knew I'd written. I don't mind that they have used some things I wrote - at least most of them had the decency to just take the odd sentence & put it in with things they had written. BUT to take an entire web page including photos is going a bit too far!

I have sent them an email asking that they remove the page. I may even ring them if I don't get a response quickly.
  • Result! The ones that had copied the entire page have removed the Page from their website. He sent me an email back saying websites are copied daily - get over it - it happens! Cheeky blighter!

The other one is a bit too weird for me - as they are in Australia - I think I'll let this one pass. At least they didn't take my photos too.

    Well that's good news.

Just make sure they don't put it back up in a week when they think you'll have forgotten about it!

My tuppence worth WishI'dReadSooner. firstly I have not viewed both of your sites in depth. I think you business is more local UK than Australian. I feel an alliance between you to may have been a great advantage and opportunity to both of you. You may have missed doubling your viewing potential and getting more people aware of your this area of photography/life/spiritualism etc.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

Someone stole an image from website once and refused to stop linking to it from server.

I merely replaced the image on my server with something inappropriate and sat back while his user base evaporated :-)

You could also watermark you photos with your web site address. It means more work for you but more work for them to steal.

I did the link to the copied website thing- really useful. A few sites have copied mine (which I'm ok about as I don't sell anything), and they are in China and Hong Kong- interesting!

  • Hi guys.

Many thanks to you all for all of your useful information.
My competitior wasn't linking to my photo's, but had obviously copied and pasted my package contents down to the last word. He also had copied the links that I had on my site.
I don't want to give out his website details, as I really don't want him to receive any more attention than he deserves.
I have emailed him several times to let him know, what action I will take against him, if he doesn't substantially change the wording of his webiste, and although he has changed a few of the words, in my opinion it isn't enough.
I have now given him 24 hours notice to change, or I will report his site to his web hosting company and all search engines that he is listed with.
I have tried the archive site that was posted earlier in this thread, but it is only showing pages up until the end of 2007.
Is there any way I can prove what he had on his site a few days ago, when I first noticed the plagarism?

  • Hi

Hope someone on here can help.
I posted the original topic as my main competitior had plageurised my website. After lots of warning shots across his bows, he finally changed his site.
However, I have just found out today that he has bought a web address that is one letter different to mine ( put an S at the end of my website address, before the .co.uk bit ) I can only presume in the hope that my customers could possibly mis spell my web address.
He is linking this new website address to his own site. He is also advertising with this new website address.
I have contacted him, and threatened him with legal action, but I need to know, if there is anything legally I can do about this.

    Many thanks for any help.

Paying particular attention to section 4biv.

nope, you should have bought all similar names to your own, try misspelling microsoft and see where you get.

the original problem, the only site i see looking similar (layout wise) to yours is (i won't link) thechocolatefonduecompany, though their site, and the others in the top 5 google hit list, all look better presented than yours, though that may be because I use the popular firefox browser, which your site hasn't been tested for compatability with, a mistake which may be costing you money :(
