Priceline Bidding Advice

This is not strictly true. I managed to book the wrong dates for my 3 night trip to London, so I called Priceline and explained the situation, and they initially refunded 2 of the nights, and then refunded the 3rd night after I had successfully booked the correct dates through them. Then they slapped a £15 admin fee on top, which I didn't feel was unfair at all, considering that they do not undertake to refund bookings.
So, all in all, I had a lucky escape!
I do know that Priceline, under certain conditions (such as yours) may give a refund so long as you bid again and that they will charge a small fee for this.
In my guide I didn't want to cloud the issue by saying a refund is possible as even with your situation Priceline have been known not to allow a rebid\refund.
Always best to double check your details etc before you bid
Well done anyway.0 -
Course you can...just mug the addresss
I have never used the uk site (although with the dollar falling it isn't really a must anymore) and have 30 odd successful bids to my name.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

A "sometimes things don't work out as you hoped" Priceline story.
I've had over 30 successful priceline bids but managed to totally mess up a recent Vegas booking by not checking carefully enough before hitting send.
I had indvertently clicked North Strip as well as South-and got the Riviera which I was not thrilled about. A quick check on Kayak showed it was available cheaper elsewhere so I called the priceline UK number (despite booking through the US site) and invoked their price guarntee which got me $30 refund.
As it turned out I got upgraded (no $20 trick) to a full one bedroom suite with balcony -not a bad deal for a Friday night for $70 including tax.

Hi there!
I'm going to Hong Kong again in 2009 and I would like some (of your friendly) assistance and a betting strategy for my stay in Hong Kong.
I would like to stay in a 4* (or better) hotel in Hong Kong (Central Kowloon and Tsim Sha Tsui only).
I would like to check in from the 1st April 2009 and I will be checking out on the 19th April.
According to the Priceline hotels list, these are the hotels available in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong (Central Kowloon)
5* Harbour Plaza
5* Langham Place
4* Eaton Hotel
Hong Kong (East)
4* Harbour Plaza North Point
Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui)
5* Sheraton
4* Holiday Inn Golden Mile
4* Kowloon Hotel
4* Regal Kowloon Hotel
4* Renaissance
Hong Kong (West Hong Kong Island)
5* JW Marriott
4* Cosmopolitan Hotel
4* Renaisance HarborView
3* Cosmo Hotel
What I'd also would like to know is...
1. I know 18 days might seem like a long time to book but I'm willing to break it up as I might also be travelling in China during my 18 day stay in Hong Kong.
What's are the maximum (duration) amount of days allowed for me to stay in Hong Kong at reasonalbly cheap rates?
From searching around, I'm getting the impression that the maximum allowed is 4 days.
2. How early should I start looking at bidding in general?
I realise I might be a little early making a bid and that the inventary might not even be released.
By the way, I'm willing to bid (ideally) no more than $150 including taxes.
I can see in the past history of the BetterBidding forums on Hong Kong that the last 4* hotel (Eaton Hotel in Central Kowloon) was won for $90 per day for four days on the 2nd April 2007.
I know this has been long (essay) but I've wrote down as much detail as I could to help you guys aiding me to getting a good deal.
Thank you for taking your time reading this and many thanks in advance to all replies to this.
P.S. I've also asked for advice on the bettetbidding website.0 -

Good comprehensive post. You seem to have done your research. :T
I've moved your post on Betterbidding to the correct forum and I'll wait to see what thereuare replies with before I add to it here if necessary.
Have you looked at conventional booking sites? IMHO Hong Kong has never been a PL bargain unless you book 5*.
Quite often places like Asia Rooms have good prices.0 -
Yeah, I did my research this year and thanks to your help last year as well.
I've checked Asia Rooms... They don't seem to be exactly cheap!
Maybe, I'm trying to book too early - I really don't know!0 -
I managed to get Hotel Rafaels Diagonal Port in Barcelona for £58.00 per night for four nights at Xmas. Should have been £67.00. First time I have used it and it was v scary but I m happy with the result, its no 77 on Trip advisor, my favorite hotel is ranked 231 so it should be good. :j
Thanks for the advice Blindman.
One question though for next time. It said to increase my bid by £14.00 and I bid an extra £7 after changing the criteria was this the right thing to do or should I have left my original bid?0 -

Well done on your win. :j
If you could post it on Betterbiddng then that could help others.
(It's not been reported on BB)
Regarding the "Counter offer" of £14.00.
Yes you did right by altering on of your criteria and bidding again by about half of what PL suggested.
2) Rebid\Counter offers:
Basically you get a “If you raise your bid by £xx right now we will allow you to make the same bid again.” or We could not find you a hotel at £X, but if you raise your price to £YY we will let you purchase your hotel room now.”
A rebid\counterbid offer means there’s inventory to be had, often just a little more than your bid but RARELY at the price they’re asking you to pay.
A good rule of thumb is that the minimum winning bid is about ½ way between what you bid and what is now being offered.0 -
So you don't think I would have won with my original bid of £45.00 then, that's good. First time you have all sorts of thoughts going through your head.
Again thanks for your help.0
