I would call back again now Jodie. Don't wait or you will end up with an order you don't want and an £800 bill for it

My first post may have come across as a bit strong. I wasn't having a go at the OP, just pointing out that the information was there so Next weren't totally to blame.

Reading through the T&Cs it states that a credit agreement will be sent out in the post. This has to be signed and returned before anything is delivered.

Maybe this is why the order isn't yet showing on the system? Because until the credit agreement paperwork is returned that order hasn't technically been placed until the paperwork is returned.

It looks like there's no need to worry about £800 worth of furniture turning up with a bill, as that's not going to happen unless you sign the credit agreement.

tinkerbell84, I'm pretty sure you have to have an account for 6 months before they send/offer you the actual physical card to use in store, so to begin with it's just like any other catalogue account :p

    HI,
I seriously don't understand how could it be done. When I wanted Next directory as we were buying all our furniture from there, I completed all their forms and let them do a credit check (as that is what they have definitely do). For some strange reason my credit check wasn't up to the scratch (and I have 3 credit cards!!) and they asked me to supply them with driving licence, bills etc etc... So I gave up as I will definitely not give any store all my identity to copy.

Could it be *because* you have three CCs already? Banks do seem to be getting better at checking how much credit one already has available. *shrug*

Seriously doubt it. 3 CCs is nothing in comparison to others and they are all paid back over short period of time... Next directory is only interested in you buying things from them and paying for them, we are not talking about credit card offering x months 0% promotions.

And why would they ask me for driving licence and not my payslip if that was their concern???
  • My god, I can't believe this! I have done the same thing, selected items and gone to checkout to see what delivery cosats are going to be etc. Albeit not on a next website thank god. Hope you get sorted hon and not stung for this. If you don't get anywhere with them when you call, just persevere.

You should not have to put up with that kind of thing.

    Regards:o
  • Thanks all.

I called up this morning and asked to cancel. The order had still not shown up, but they cancelled the credit agreement. They couldn't explain why I received the confirmation email, but it may have been a mistake.

There is an article here (http://www.computerworlduk.com/management/security/cybercrime/news/index.cfm?newsid=5128) about Next Directory fraud about a year ago:

Chief executive Simon Wolfson said Next had suffered "significant fraud' that could be as much as £6m in six months.

He said there had until recently been "several loopholes in the way we allowed customers credit" that the clothes and homeware retailer had now taken steps to close.

According to unconfirmed reports identity fraud was a key problem experienced by the retailer, with fraudsters found to be taking control of other customers' accounts or setting up bogus accounts.
But Greg Day, security analyst at McAfee, said Next's problems were "a graphic example of how a breach in information security can impact both a business and its customers."

Oh well. Thanks for your all your support. I am hoping it's all over now. Next time I buy something from a website I won't opt for the catalogue. :o

the problem lies with you OP. the page clearly gives you a pay now option or not.

you dont get a card through the post, its just a credit account as any other catalogue (but without all the junk mail)... after a while once u are 'established', they offer you a card so u can use it in the shops, u dont have to make it a 'card'.

dunno why your gettin to 'hyped up'. you chose to open the account.

Phone them up and complain again!!! That is awful!!! Ask to speak to a supervisor or manager saying you never agreed to a credit card or store card and you want the card and the order cancelled IMMEDIATELY
I think most people on here would be gratefull for having a line of credit like that, just pay the full balance with your card when your statment arrives...problem....sorted.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Sorry to up this one again, but I did a similar thing to the OP. Was thinking about ordering some clothes from Next, so decided to register on the site to save time later. When it opened my 'Customer Page' and I saw I had a credit limit of £300, I realised I'd actually signed up to a credit account.

Ten minutes later I phoned to explain and cancel, which the guy on the phone said he had done. Looking on my Experian credit report this morning, I notice the credit check Next carried out has knocked 50 points off my credit score.

Was just wondering if anyone knew:

    a) Seeing as I have not signed a credit agreement (and have no intention of doing, now the credit is closed) will it ever count as being open, and will it show up on my credit report, and

    b) What are the chances of Next agreeing to take the credit check off my credit report (as recommended by Experian) if I explain I was never interested in credit and the account is now closed?
