We All Want Our Own Homes!

I've rented and I've owned and now I'm renting again and I'm a hell of a lot happier in this rented home than I was in the house I bought. I'm happy because I live in a much nicer area for less rent than my increased mortgage repayment would have been. I'm happier because I have lots of money in the bank, earning lots of interest and allowing me stop working and start a family. And I was bloody happy the day my oven packed in and my landlord had to pay to replace it and not me.woot222.gif

Where I live is my home, I'm proud of it. I keep it looking nice and well maintained. But whenever there are major jobs that need doing my hand stays in my pocket.

    Gracie,

Your post reflects exactly the type of "I WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING!" brigade.

You're actually gloating over the fact your landlord HAD to buy a new cooker.....and how your hand stays in your pocket when jobs need doing.

Obviously, owning wouldn't be for you. You have to PAY for nice things (and essentials) - and you want them for free! Nice!

And just because I think some of these posters (including YOU) are frustrated, wannabe homeowners who expect people to almost GIVE their homes away rather than you having to put your hand in your pocket, it does not make me an overstretched buy to let landlord.

I actually own my house - outright. I have NO mortgage - but I do have to put my hand in my pocket if I fancy a change of decoration. So no............owning obviously wouldn't be for you! So I'm not sure what you're doing on this forum...............;)
  • You really have lost the plot.
Just because you did not do your research before you bought and have caught a cold there is no need to take your failings out on others.
You give us BTL's a bad name, keep your gob shut and do what you preach, get off your fat @rse and work your way out of the trouble you have bought.
It would not surprise me if you are going down the chucking the keys in route as we speak and that is why you have become so bitter and twisted.

What is it with the likes of you??????:rotfl:

I'm not going to keep repeating myself - I'll say it for the last time: I OWN MY OWN PROPERTY - OUTRIGHT.

I DO NOT HAVE A MORTGAGE.

MY PROPERTY IS WORTH AROUND HALF A MILLION POUNDS.

If property dropped by 90%:rotfl: and I wanted to move, all other property would have dropped too......................so it doesn't matter to me. Up or down - makes no difference to me.:j

It seems that some of you can't understand how people can have views without being involved themselves. And that's another reflection of your blinkered brains......................you're all so inward and think only of yourselves. Unless there's something in it for you you don't want to know - which is why you can't understand how people can have a viewpoint on something that doesn't affect them personally.

Pickled, sweetcheeks, Gracie isn't getting it for free. She is paying her landlord for a service. If s/he doesn't make any money off her after fixing the cooker, well that's their lookout, blame it on the business plan, that's capitalism mate.

I don't know why I'm responding to this rubbish anyway. Anyone else get the impression that Pickledpink is living in a damp basement bedsit in Clacton, typing away feverishly while becoming ever so excited at the thought of all these intelligent and articulate people getting cross with him? Bet he's not even paying for his wifi connection!

    I've been Money Tipped!
The assumption made that renters are 'getting it fr free' is interesting. After all, I would submit that property owners (homeowners or BTLers) have rather 'got it for free' in recent years with HP increases!

If I have a sevice, any service, that does not meet the contractual provisions I expect the service provider to make ammends. Just as, when I was working, if my work was wanting I expected to have to put it right.

I have NO issue with landlords. I think GOOD landlords provide an essential service. I am not concerned when GOOD landlords make a lot of money. BUT I do find distasteful this proposition that landlords should make money for providing a poor service (something for nothing style) and that their CUSTOMERS are somehow lacking in paying for this service.

Thank God YOU'LL never be able to afford to buy...................you'd drag the neighbourhood down.

The words SPONGE and SINK ESTATE spring to mind.

Yeah but, no but, yeah but, no but......................

Ever heard of the words WORK, PRIDE and GRAFT?

Sounds like you and your parents are lazy lards who want everything done for them without getting off their fat butts!

I'm sorry for not buying a house at the peak of the market with a 100% mortgage. I pay for a service from my landlord, we borrow their house to use as our HOME - They get their house looked after while it supposedly gains value and gives them their pension.
A couple with two degrees and a post graduate diploma don't tend to drag areas down?
My parents worked hard all their lives - they've just retired owning out-right a four bedroom detached house. They've always decorated neutrally and changed the look of the room with pictures and furniture rather than whipping out the paint brush.

Pickledpink, why don`t you just grow up !!!!! I couldn`t give a flying b-ll--k if you own Bucking Palce outright or if, as others suspect, you are sitting in a grotty bedsit, wearing grubby trackie bottoms with the remains of last nights kebab sticking to your string vest.

In your real (or otherwise) fantasy world being a landlord comes with reponsibilities. I know, I have been a landlord. If the oven breaks then it is YOUR responsibility to fix it!!!!!

Fair wear and tear to a place is fine, live with it.

How dare you suggest that renters are spongers you silly little person.

Really? I'm actually under the impression that you bought a house in the last year. One that you continually claim is huge, yet isn't big enough for you to put a tumble dryer into anywhere but a limited space which a standard one won't fit in. And for someone who claims to have no mortgage you sure have a lot of qualms about paying for the expensive dryer you'd like.

You also have a flat, which perhaps you inherited, but from the level of vitriol espoused by you recently, I'm guessing you bought some years ago and couldn't/wouldn't sell it when you traded up and are now realising you can't actually afford.

See, you're not the only one who can search posts.

Ha! YOU obviously can't digest informaion properly!

Yes, I DID buy my property in the last year - for cash - after I sold my previous house.:p

As for the tumble-dryer (of which I subsequently bought) I needed an INTEGRATED CONDENSER type (all my units are fitted) and those dryers cost about a grand. I thought that was expensive - seeing as most dryers are only about £250!

It had NOTHING to do with space (my kitchen is LARGE:p ) but I didn't want to spoil the neat lines of my designer kitchen by having any old dryer stuck in the middle of it! PLUS, I needed an INTEGRATED one so as to cover it with the door which matches the rest of my kitchen units.

I suppose you wouldn't know about integrated appliances - in fact, I doubt you even have a tumble dryer!!:rotfl:

Well, someone here has a screw loose, because these 'debates' seem to drift alarmingly away from the subject.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
