If your still with BT for Line Rental and still use them to carry some of your calls eg to qualify for caller display. Register for this service as it automatically gives 10% discount for the top 5 numbers you dial even if you phone a 01/02 twice a month,or if you make the occassional mobile call .

Doesnt apply to NGN. But you can make an 0845 number your best friend and get 20% off calls to an 0845 number, handy to register your dial up provider or bank etc if you dont know Geo Number.

I barely make any calls, maybe 1 or 2 a month. Would I still get this discount?

I may be reading this wrongly buy, AFAICS, Auto Update is a worse 'service' for the majority of us (those on BT Together Option 1)..

Ordinary F&F gives:

Friends & FamilyFriends & Family Overseas can save you 10% on calls to 15 frequently called numbers of your choice. These numbers make up your Calling Circle.
Your Calling CircleYou get 15 numbers in total. The first 10 can be a combination of UK and mobile, plus one international number. You also get an additional five international numbers.
Your BestFriendYou can save 20% on calls to your BestFriend number. This can be any UK or mobile number.

OTOH, Auto Update gives:

Friends & Family Auto Update gives a 10% discount on the cost of calls to a set amount of numbers (including UK Landline, International and mobile), according to your BT Together Option.
BT Together Option 1: 10% discount on the cost of calls to your top 5 numbers.
BT Together Option 2: 10% discount on the cost of calls to your top 10 numbers.
BT Together Option 3: 10% discount on the cost of calls to your top 15 numbers.

Yes auto update offers less choice if your on Opt 1/2 but astute Moneysavers would not be putting their traffic over BT any way cos BT geo, intl, and mobile calls would normally be dearer even with 10% off.So the point i was trying to make was if you took autoupdate and put a couple of calls over BT to get free caller display, you would not have to worry if you were calling a F or F number cos you would automatically get 10% anyway.

Even with Auto Update you still get a 20% discount Best Friend choice of number.So you could pick an 0845 number you call regularly.

Why does it not suprise me to hear that Friends and Family Autoupdate isn't as good as doing it manually?

It excludes 0845 numbers, so that's ISP dial-up numbers that would never be put on F&F then. Also, what about mobile numbers? These are the most expensive and common number prefixes besides geographical. With evening geographicals being 5.5p for upto an hour, a long call will cost far less than to a mobile.
What about the other 5 F&F numbers? Can they be selected manually aswell? So do you have 5 F&F Autoupdate numbers and 5 other numbers?
Where does the Best Friend figure in all this?
