Going to Australia this weekend and my Abbey Zero application has not gone through yet.

How long ago did you apply for the Abbey Zero card? I have applied for mine today and I am wondering about the timescales involved i.e. I need the card by 26 May.

They said minimum three weeks so I don't think you'll get it by 26 May. But obviously check with them on the freephone number.

I phoned after a week and a half and needed it four days later so I cancelled the application.

The Money Maximiser is great, thanks.

As mentioned before on this thread, the "handling fee" on debit cards confuses the issue.

First Direct is shown as having no fees on your list - but charges 2.75% handling fee (with a maximum I think). Barclays is shown as charging fees but seems to charge the same handling fee.

I also read on this thread that if you use a Visa card - even for debit transactions - that there will be a charge?

I was just about to order some foreign currency from Travelex through the Airmiles online shopping site, in order to collect some airmiles on it, but discovered that the rate is a lot lower than through the normal Travelex site - 1.18 Euro to the £ rather than 1.21! That's a difference of 10 Euro on a £300 spend.

I've fired off a couple of complaining emails (because nowhere does it mention that the Airmiles rate might be different from the Travelex site rate).

    It's so annoying - there's always a catch!

Currency Express (the name on Travel Money Maximiser) or International Currency Exchange/ICE (the website you arrive at) suck.

They took my order, charged my card for the currency I ordered - then hours later cancelled the transaction again for some spurious security reason which they won't reveal. They even admitted they don't do security checks until after they charge your card!

It apparently will take up to 5 days for the money to appear back on my card - and I'm not sure yet if I'll get charged anything for this by my card provider (given it's a cash advance).

    How rubbish is that!

Are they safe to use? Does your money actually arrive on time?
    thanks

Don't think anyone replied to this post and I have the same question! My husband want to use this site - has anyone had good or bad experiences of them? Thanks.
  • Has anyone used the fairFX website? It was in a paper on Sunday and the rates look really good or US$ and Euros. You can either get cash delivered to your door or cash put on a mastercard.

I presume ICE has nothing to do with Travelex?

I'm thinking of ordering my dollars from Travelex and picking up in Gatwick South. Never done this before though- presume they give you a reference number etc?!
