I would also pass her a letter from yourself granting permission for your son to 'leave the country'. Make sure your contact details are on there etc.

Have a look at this: https://www.emsleys.co.uk/blog/do-i-need-to-get-my-ex-partners-consent-to-take-our-child-on-holiday

Yes, France are very strict on this, I’d check with their consulate, or online.

Can't be that strict. They didn't even query when I took my friends child with us when her other child was very ill. I had a letter from her giving permission with her contact details in preparation for someone questioning it and no one even batted an eyelid despite the completely different surname. I wasn't sure whether to be relieved we got through with no issue or alarmed at how easy it would've been had I not had permission.

They never even questioned me, my children’s last name is different to mine on passports, and my partner has a different name again!

Getting the children back into England however was filled will 100 questions and pieces of paper! Then a stern talking to for bringing all original documents... I’m pretty sure I would have been given a stern talking to if they were all photocopies too :starmod:
  • Yes, you may get lucky, but you may not.

I’ve French family, and a father and child on that side have been refused boarding on a flight as the child’s name was missing an accent on one of the vowels.

It’s common knowledge in France that you are running a serious risk if you don’t have paperwork in order, including a letter of consent from the other parent.

It's better to have stuff with you and not need it, than need it and not have it.

If you have letters and things and they remain in your bag all the time, then you've lost nothing, if it were me I would rather be over prepared than under prepared
  • Just write a short letter or email, I always take my daughters birth certificate, and the only place I've been questioned is going to France.
