As the title says, I am saving every last penny, the hardest part for me is having a no spend month, I always crack and buy something unnecessary and then I am furious at myself afterwards. The last 2 months I have managed a No Spend month and I have managed to sell a bunch of stuff too to buy the kids the new school shoes they need in august and to pay for our summer funds.
I have opened a LISA which has 1000 and that was before April so I intend to use the full 4000 allowance this year.
My goal for April 2019/20 is to save 6,000.

after a stressful couple of days sorting tax credits and juggling finances I am finally sorted for this month so should be right on track for saving. I am going to meal plan every meal, have timed snack slots for the kids, like at school so they don't devour my entire kitchen every weekend and holiday and plan everything but have a buffer for unexpected spends until I have got the budget precise.

Today I am stressed. I am so focused on saving it it all I can currently think about which is a bit crazy. Every time go to spend money I feel like that money would be so better suited to my savings and I can't spend it. Its like once I made the decision to buy a home thats all I can think about and focus on.
Im just looking at all the free and cheap activities that are on in the school holidays and juggling it all around. I have my set budget for the summer and I am determined to not go over it!

    Good luck.

I like the idea of set snack times for kids. I find mine eat less if they have to eat it from a plate at a table!

Try your local library, churches & Sainsburys kids active clubs for free or cheap things to do over the summer.

Set snack times is working good for us so far, they have that at school and don’t starve so I have found now we eat at set times at homes we go through far less fruit and snack foods.

I totally forget to get my spa up for this week so will do that as soon as I get the chance. Kids are all chilling at home with me today while we get the house in order.
Meal planning today and completing my envelope budget.
I have a few days out and trips with the kids this week so not as cheap a week a usual but still within my budget

Welcome, you sound extreme determined! I shall follow with interest.

Regarding the snacks, what do your kids have? Would something made with oats help fill them up? There was a recent 'eat well for less' episode where they were creating snacks for 3 strapping teenage lads - a look at this might give some ideas?

    Good luck!

tomorrow is moving day. We are moving into a rental for the next 18 months while I save like a mad woman for a deposit. We have been in temporary housing now for over a year and I decided enough is enough. We are miserable and I found out that even if we leave temporary housing and go into private rented accommodation, we will still be eligible for most of the government help to buy schemes or shared ownership schemes. Plus the rent happens to be 50 a month cheaper!!
I am excited and nervous all at the same time but Looking forward to a fresh start in a much nicer home.
Please have us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.
This is the start of the rest of our lives and its a great feeling.

The house move went fabulously. We are in and settled and eagerly anticipating the delivery of some flat pack in which to put our stuff. (Monday). I am thoroughly shattered but have kept to my furnishings budget and now I'm just having some down time after all the stress of it all.
hopefully will have new SOA up shortly so I can re-jiggle my budget.

Ive been so shattered the last few weeks. had family visiting and been super busy so haven't really updated much :-\
Im still saving like a crazy woman but only saved half my usual amount this month and did ALL, thats right ALL of my Christmas shopping. now all I have to do is wrap it and we are ready.
I already had a plan as to what I was getting the kids so have shopped the sales throughout the year and bought the last of it this week.
now the only thing I need to purchase is the food which I will do as part of our weekly shopping budget.
two of the kids are on a school residential in feb so that will take a big chunk out of my budget for nov.
im also going to sell the car as we seldom use it for anything other than shopping and frankly I can make do without it and not get so much in one go.
uni is going really well and I'm settling in nicely into my online lectures and tutorials.
hope everyone is having a feb week
    Kim

Best of luck saving for a deposit, I have much admiration for you managing to save with so many children, it must take a lot of determination as well as organisation
